Be Mine

Written in first person and not spoken in the perspective of April
A thing I wrote for valentines day. Meant to be a short read but got away from me bit~

"A venti caramel frappe with oat milk?"

"Ah, that's me!" The bubbly redhead bounced up to accept her drink from me, a curt "thank you" leaving her lips. I watched her bound back to the table she shared with an odd group of people. An emo goth chick with a bob and a flamboyant lady(?) with pink hair. I noted that I wasn't the only one who was captivated by the redhead, noticing the crude stares she received when she walked by others. To be fair her outfit would catch the eye, pretty in pink, she was. Pink low-cut skirt. Y2K styled crop with baby pink knee-high socks and converses fulling it out. Not to mention the bow. She was cute. Too cute clearly. My attention was grabbed by a customer coming up at the register. By the time I was done working on the next two orders the table occupied by the star was gone. I couldn't let this opportunity slip.

"Excuse me?" The redhead, who had her earbuds in looked up at me. Her large blue eyes stared up at me, sending a chill down my spine, a heady rush of...something going through my head. I snap out of my daze and immediately sat her drink down in front of her. "I called your name but..."

"What? Oh! Yeah, sorry I had my buds in...listening to my new single actually." A sweet smile formed on her lips; the humble brag was most likely calculated.

"Yeah, I heard it too...really like that one." Fuck. I didn't mean to blurt that out. The last thing I want is to be labeled some weird fan.

"Oh! You're a fan?" She seemed happy at this, her eyes sparkling. "Well I am always happy to meet my fans and if you want an autograph or even a picture I can-"

"No, it's fine I don't want to interrupt you."

"Eh? It's really fine I can-"

"April!" A bouncy raven, accompanied by two shorter males, one in a cat helmet, the other...green.

"Ray! Took you long enough." The trio took seats at the table, the commotion allowing me to retreat to my station. I could feel my heart almost stop. I am quite confident I look completely different, but that raven-haired girl had a sharp eye despite her youthful naivety. For now, I should play it safe.

It has been almost a little over a month since I started working here. The job was boring as much as it was tedious and annoying. However, seeing the object of my affection pop in almost every day made it worth it. I also managed to get quite friendly with the female. She would willingly walk up and say "hello" to me before anyone else. The tender action would squeeze my heart, a vice-like grip. It even got to a point where I felt comfortable enough to serve her drink table side instead of calling her up to get it (treating her like the queen she is). Some days she would come in alone and immediately head out. Some nights she would come in and sit to write. On other days she would come in with an array of friends. Until one afternoon she came in with a man, who was simply dressed but reeked of wealth. He would recognize that man from anywhere.

"When do you think you'll be back?" I could hear April say. It was hard to hear but luckily enough they sat close enough to my station where I could hear bits and pieces.

"It's not going to be too long, why? Don't you have important things to be doing?"

"Why do you say it like that? I mean, yeah, I do, but..."

"Listen April, I didn't come out tonight to argue. I'm leaving soon and I wanted to spend time with you. That's it." The man reached out his grizzly hand towards her, anger bubbling inside me.
