-Mateos povI watch Zaya start to make us some dinner as I swing my feet and lay back on her kitchen counter. Zaya always cooks for us, I normally help her but today im not feeling it.
I sit up and rest on my elbows and watch as she scuttles around the kitchen. Zaya and I changed after going in the rain and being completely soaked. I threw on some of her dads old clothes and she's wearing some old pjs and a random blue shirt that I think is from middle school.
"What are you making?" I Tilt my head at Zaya as she twirls to look at me on the island counter.
"Aflredo believe it or not. Valdez get off the counter you know how my mom feels about us being on her precious marble counters." Zaya rolls her eyes and turns back to stove and stirs the noodles. Zaya and I have always loved Alfredo, her more than I.
"Yea whatever, you already know that my mom and yours are out shopping." She nods and continues stirring.
"What's your opinion on spider Lillie's." She turns around and looks up at me on the counter.
"Well they represent death in a few tv shows so not sure what I'm supposed to say." I sit up and shrug my shoulders.
Zaya was always one for meaning or symbolism. She went ecstatic whenever she seen there was meaning behind anything, even a fucking leaf.
"I disagree heavily. Spider Lillie's are by far the prettiest flowers to ever exist." She passionately tells me. She has this heavenly look on her face as she smiles and walks to the pantry in the hallway.
"What do they even look like? I forgot." I declare as I stare off into her backyard. Zay lives in town but not directly in town. We live in a semi big town, not big enough for it to be called a city but not small enough to be called a small town.
"Oh my god do I need to pull up a photo. Do it yourself Mateo." She huffs and puts the strainer in the sink.
"Ok fine, I will." Pulling out my phone, I look up spider Lillie's and this red flower with leg looking things pop up. Was this supposed to be pretty?
"They're alright I guess." Murmuring as I start to pull out plates from the cupboards.
"You have the worst taste I've ever seen Valdez." Zay tells me as she strains the pasta.
"Ok miss I watch greys anatomy. Why would you want to watch a show with 17-ish seasons?" I ask as I set the table up.
Zaya always watches the shows with lots of seasons. Me personally I can't get through two twenty minute episodes without going on my phone.
"Yea whatever, at least I can pay attention and don't have a attention span of a five year old." She snorts and stirs in the pasta sauce from the pantry.
"Shut up." Mumbling I grab my plate from the table and walk to the pot.
Zaya has made Alfredo yet again and refuses to put any meat in it. Anytime she makes Alfredo I beg her to put something with protein in it but she can't stand meat, the only meat she can stand is chicken but only chicken tenders. As if that makes any sense? Probable because she went vegetarian in sixth grade and only started to eat meat a year ago. She still can't stand most meat.
"You can dish yourself up. Are we eating in the living room or my room?" She asks while dishing herself up a plate.
"I vote living room, and no we're not watching greys Anatomy Zay." I tell her as I dish myself up some Alfredo.
"You're an ass." She mumbles under her breath.
"What was that?" I ask teasingly.
We walk into the living room and I plop down onto the black couch while she sits down one cushion away from me.
