"The boyfriend"
AFTER SUFFERING a particularly long history class next to Lucy Hanes -a girl who Laurie believed to have the loudest and most nasally voice ever- while Tommy Hagan hurled paper balls at the back of her neck, who made Laurie want to punch him in his ugly freckled face, it was safe to say Laurie was officially having the worst day ever.
As a result of Laurie's bad day, walking out of school was a huge relief. while cheerfully skipping away, her mood ruined when she walks past the one and only Ben Harrington, he watched her from across the lot leaning on his expensive car when he peeled his eyes away from some old looking book to ogle at the Byers girl.
Tommy and carol were sat on Steve's car and harassing some poor freshman when Laurie passed them, she makes eye contact with the Harrington boy, neither looks away for some time, only after noticing the teasing glares of tommy and Carol does Laurie looks away first.
She ignores tommy and Steve's whistling as she swings one leg over her bike and undoes her helmets clip in her lap, those dogs can bark all they want, she's About to clip on her helmet when she sees Jonathan walking to his car, eyes to the floor and shoulders hunched over ,he was dressed in all dark colors and his dark boots kicked at the pavement.
like usual he's alone.
She drops her helmet on the ground and runs to catch up with his long strides ''Jon! Wait!'
He turns and his eyes widen in shook, not expecting Laurie to look so...so rough? Laurie always looked very Put together and tidy , so seeing her with leaves in her hair and mud covered boots was an odd occurrence.
''Where were you last night?, mom was pretty worried'' he questioned his older sister, because while Laurie was oldest by a year ,he was the responsible one, the so called 'reasonable' one who was always looking after both his siblings.
''I know, I forgot to call from heathers after the party, sorry'' she seemed to really regret it so Jonathan eased up a bit, relaxing his shoulders and softening his eyes at his pitiful sister.
''you think she's angry?'' Laurie is worried, she never intended to hurt her mom, she assumed by the time she'd returned they would all be eating dinner or watching some terrible movie...so instead of getting back a respectable time She returned home at 4:00am and had woken up her mother by bumping into every chair and coffee in the house.
''More worried than angry, but you should be apologize to her, not me''
He says before climbing into his car '' I'll be getting home pretty late so don't wait up'' he warns , as Laurie walks back to her bike.
''and don't forget to take Chester out!'' He yells out the window
'' I won't!, and I'm going to be at staying over at heathers again!'' She calls behind her while walking past some kids on bicycles.
Jonathan rolls his eyes at the raven-haired girl who speeds out the school parking lot, knowing she'd forget to take the dog out.
