"Emaline! You got a letter in the mail!" My mother called out to me from the front door, I was sitting at the dinning room table with my brother and father eating breakfast and talking about our plans for the day.
Mother joins us at the table and hands me my letter, then she starts to look through her own mail. I look down at the letter in my hand, the envelope has a rough texture and it looks old. My name and address is written in shimmering green ink, I flip the letter over and admire the beautiful purple seal of some sort of coat of arms. The green ink on the back spells 'Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry'. I stare at the address, my mind buzzing with questions, I tear open the sealed envelope and take out a few letters and a train ticket.
My eyes quickly scan the first letter, it was an acceptance letter to Hogwarts! My eyes widen, everything starts to click. The random teleportations, the accidents, it's all because.... I'm a witch! And I've been invited to study at a school of magic!
Barely able to contain my excitement, I clear my throat to gain the attention of my parents. "Mum, dad. I have some incredible news!" I say and they turn to me with looks of anticipation. "I'm a witch! And I've been invited to study magic at Hogwarts, a school for witches and wizards".
To my surprise, both their faces fall, "Are you sure this is real? It might just be some scam". Mother said to me. I shake my head and show her the letter, supplies list and train ticket I received. "This is all some fraud. There's no such thing as magic".
I stare at her in disbelief and turn to my dad, "What do you think dad?"
"Don't get your hoped high, it's just a scam. You won't be going and that's final". He says sternly, and turns back to his newspaper.
I snatch my papers out of my mums hands and storm off to my room. They're being so close minded, somethings about this feels too real, I just know this isn't a scam, this is real. I go to my secret stash of money I've been saving up for the past few years, I count it up, it should be enough. I grab a duffle bag and start packing the essentials. My favourite jumpers, some comfy pyjamas, sweat pants and slacks, some underwear and socks, and my favourite hoodie. I also add some books and other trinkets and things I want to take with me. I know where to catch the bus to go to London, so I grab my bag, jacket and shoes, I stash my letter and money into the pockets of my jacket, and take one last look at my room before opening my window and slipping out.
The sun is warm on my face, the sky is sprinkled with clouds, it's a beautiful day out and I smiled as I walked down the streets towards the bus stop to London. I make it there, board and shortly after depart towards the big city. After an hour of listening to music and reading my novel, the bus comes to a stop, I look out the window and stare at the busy street and tall buildings surrounding the bus. And then it hits me.
I ran away to London.
There's no going back now I left and I'm starting a new adventure at Hogwarts.
*Time skip*
I'm woken by a hand shaking my shoulder gently.
"We're here miss." The bus driver spoke to me. I nodded and rubbed the sleep from my eyes and grabbed my bags, I left the bus and entered the busy city of London.
People flourished around me, as I walked I found myself lost in the sea of people walking in a hurry to where they needed to be. I finally escaped the ground into a park and took a seat on a bench.
"Miss Bellhouse?" I heard a voice say to me. Wait. Who said that?
"Excuse me?" I looked all around me but I couldn't see anyone.
"Down here miss." I looked down and I saw the weirdest looking cat standing on two feet staring up at me.
"Am I still dreaming? Why is there a talking cat looking up at me."
"I am not a cat! I am a house elf, Daria the house elf at your service miss. I am here to escort you to the leaky cauldron, my master believes you are in need of assistance." I stared at Daria in utter shock.
"I'm dreaming. This isn't real."
The house elf just smiles at me. "You are miss Emaline Bellhouse right? Attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? I'm here to bring you to the leaky cauldron where you'll stay until you have to catch your train to Hogwarts."
I took a moment to stare at her, she had what appeared to be a pillow case, except it was extremely dirty and worn out, that's all she wore. It was a little weird, but so is a magical school, so I guess I should trust her. "Yes, that's me. Okay, Daria right? Lead the way." She smiles at me and takes my hand, we head off back into the streets.
We weave through people, dodging cars and traveling down side streets. How were people not staring at us? Are house elves common in London? "Daria.... Can people see you?" I asked the house elf as she tugged me through the crowd.
"No miss, I am protected by a spell that makes me invisible to muggles." She answered me, then yanked me down an alleyway.
"Muggles?" I questioned her use of words.
"Muggles are non magical people, like your parents." Daria replied.
We darted back into the streets, and then I looked around and noticed people giving me weird looks. It then occurred to me that I'm being dragged through the streets by an invisible house elf. I must look ridiculous.
Daria stopped in front of a dusty black shop, you could just barely read 'The Leaky Cauldron' from the sign hanging over the doorway. "This is the place."
"Are you sure this is entirely safe...?" I questioned the dinghy looking building in front of me that looked like a bad idea.
"Yes miss, it's where my master instructed me to bring you." She answered and walked up to the door, creaking it open for me to enter. I took a deep breath and followed the elf into the building. It was dark and musty inside, and reeked like old wax and dust, sitting around tables were people in colourful robes, sipping from mugs and chatting, non of them noticed me enter. "Follow me." Daria tugged on my jumper and lead me towards the bar tender. "Miss Bellhouse has arrived, shall I show her to her room?"
The man at the bar looked down at Daria, then up at me, he nodded and ducked behind the counter, returning with a key attached to a slab of wood.
"She's in room 213." The man said and handed Daria the key.
Daria led me to a stairway, we climbed the stairs and entered a hallway, travelling past rooms till we reached room 213.
"Was that your master?" I asked Daria, referring to the man at the bar.
"Yes, he is the owner of the leaky cauldron, us house elves help bring the Hogwarts students who run away here so they can have a place to stay and we can help them get set up for school." She explained to me. I nodded, thinking to myself that they have a really good system. "Tomorrow I have to help another student find their way here, so you'll have to shop at diagon alley all on your own."
Daria proceeded to explain to me the instructions for how to enter diagon alley, and that my supplies list was included with my acceptance letter. She said goodnight to me and left me to rest for the night.
I changed into my pj's and settled in my bed, I tried my best to sleep, but my mind was buzzing with the excitement from the day that I'd had, eventually I fell fast asleep.
