It was the burst of heat and brightness bathing his face that snapped Sasuke out of his daze. He was sitting on the edge of his bed in his 8X10 square feet bedroom. They were barred from the world in their own province. Having already donned his school uniform, he was up in advance.

He could still hear the ticking of the small hand on his wall clock. Sasuke only had a couple of minutes until dawn. He was the newly appointed Specter. He wasn't even a full month old. The others referred to him as the young one and did not know what to make of him. It had been a century since one appeared last and they believed the world didn't need it anymore.

His kin believed that fulfilling their duties would return them back to their realm. That was not the case. Instead, the Cosmos brought him. A creak from his bedroom door caught his attention.

"You ready?"

"Yes," he stood from his bed.

"How did you sleep?"

If he counted the slight dozing off here and there as sleep."I haven't, it's still all fairly new."

"It takes time." His elder, Itachi, barely met his gaze.

No further words were spoken between them as they left the walled-off province.

Until Sasuke decided to interject."I don't need help getting there. I know my way around." He had all maps etched to memory, for this town. He knew all the street names. He was confident he wouldn't get lost.

"You may not believe this young one but it can still be overwhelming. All the new sights and sounds this is your first time leaving the walls of the district."

"I'll manage." He may have been new but he was fully capable.

A light chuckle escaped Itachi's lips, "I remember feeling confident my first day adapted to humans." He tilted his head up to the sky in thought. "Get ready for a rude awakening." There was a coldness in his voice.

Sasuke said nothing further. They walked side-by-side down the concrete sidewalk, garnering strange glances and observing as people ducked and dived away. While walking her babies, one woman almost left the stroller but returned to get her child. As Sasuke gazed at Itachi, he noticed that he was stone-faced and unbothered by people's reactions.

"They believe we are here to take the life of someone or cause a disaster."

This time Itachi caught his gaze.

"You have a soul to collect but until the time is right you are here to stay. This is a perfect time for you to see how humans behave." Silence overcame them.

"They are complex creatures." He added.

"I disagree. Humans are destructive, they are selfish and self-serving. The planet would be better off if we got rid of them."

"You been listening to Madara again, haven't you?" Itachi's voice was smooth and deep, though it held no annoyance, his eyes still narrowed.

"He has a point. He gave me history books to read." Sasuke was grateful for a valuable way to bided his time, and thus he read, and when he was finished with that he went to their library. Absorbing all the knowledge it had to offer him. When mankind discovered they could kill one another again, wars and senseless crimes became inevitable. All of them attacked each other like ravenous dogs.
