"Ren, did she kick you out again?" Y/n asked as he sadly stared at the young boy waiting by his door, Keiko in his hand fast asleep. The black haired boy just silently nod his head as he yawned.

Y/n fished his keys out his pocket and unlocked the door for both little kids, y/n carefully took Keiko out Ren's hand and hoisted her little head over his own shoulder. She was softly snoring as she was set back to the couch, a few blankets covering her.

The black haired boy was tired, most likely due to the fact that his mother kept him up all night with her own antics.

"Hungry? It's raining a bit outside so it may be cold.."

He didn't know why he cared.

He didn't know how to care.

But it felt right.

To help someone

To help a child

He could never understand the relief Ren must feel whenever he sees the h/c, but he prays he feels safe with him.

The same way he wishes to feel safe.

"No... I just didn't want to be in there today...she's...getting worse.."

The little boy sighed, rubbing his eyes. He really was tired.

"How long have you been up? You want the heater on? Or some coffee? Do kids drink coffee?"

"I dunno... but I'm gonna steal one of your sweaters. No coffee, that stuff tastes gross.." the child uttered as he slipped into a gray sweater that was one too many sizes big for him. Y/n hummed as he put away a few things, bringing out a blanket and a pillow for the black haired child.

"So you don't need anything?"

Ren crawled into the blanket that the h/c set up for him, warming himself up. "No." "Then I'll be in my room for a bit, I'll be back."

"Wait.."

The man slightly turned his head to stare, seeing Ren extending his arms out from beyond the thick wool blanket.

"Could...could you stay with me for a bit..? I don't wanna be alone this time..."

Y/n's eyes shot from the boy to his bedroom door. "Ren you know I'm not the best person to help-"

"You don't need to help me with anything...

Just being here is enough...

Please?"

How could y/n say no?

He knew what it was like.

Saying no to Ren was like saying no to himself.

Which is how y/n was stuck laying on the couch, underneath the blanket with a sleepy child clinging to the side of his chest like a koala on a tree.
