The next day the bus came at the end of our driveway. I got on expecting to sit in the front but Brayden waved me to the back. I sat in the seat next to him and I caught him looking at me.
"Oh um, morning." He said in a rush, an embarrassed smile spreading across his face. We didn't talk the rest of the bus ride but afterward he offered to walk me to class.
The day moved on as most first days did. Rules, punishments, expectations, and so on. After the first two mods were over it was lunch. I sat at a table one my own until a bunch of girls sat down around me. They started asking me a bunch of questions that ranged between personal and dumb. I couldn't even tell them to go away or be quiet because they just kept on talking and talking. I just limited my responses to a yes or no.
Someone I met in first mod watched them from another table with annoyance clear on her face. She must have seen it on my face too because she got up and walked over. "Excuse me but I need Ella for a minute."  The other girls looked at her like she interrupted a marathon. I stood up and walked away with her. "Thanks" I mumbled genuinely relieved. "You're welcome. They can be a bit annoying when it comes to what they call their 'new kid investigations'.
   "I can see that."
We got to her table and thankfully there was only two other girls. Unlike the popular wanna- be's, these girls actually said hello and carried decent conversation. A few tables away I saw Brayden. He was at a table that gave the 'Baseball boys' vibe. But he wasn't even paying attention to anyone except a boy who sat to his left. They were in deep conversation and I couldn't help but wonder what they were talking about that had his attention so much.
