We've been comfortably settled in my living room for three hours now, eyes glued to the screen to watch our second movie of the night: The Baybay Man. To me, this movie is boring because it simply shows that everything that scares us only lives in our minds. The protagonists must neither think nor speak the name of the Baybay Man, a horrible man who seeks to kill them, or he will appear immediately. While my friends are on edge in front of the movie, screaming and jumping at every terrifying action, I remain unperturbed, bored to death, phone in hand.
Suddenly, the kitchen door slams, pulling me out of my drowsiness. I look at my friends, who huddle together pathetically. I gently tease them before getting up to go to the bathroom, followed by Ben's gaze, who asks where I'm going.
"I'm going to relieve myself. I've drunk so much that it has to come out," I reply with a smile.
In the kitchen, I find my father.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"I'm grabbing a snack. And you? Did you leave your friends?"
"I was going to the bathroom, but I heard some noise here, so I wanted to take a look."
My father smiles at me and goes back to his room. I leave the kitchen and head towards the bathroom, but I feel like someone is watching me. I enter the bathroom and close the door. Once I'm done, I stand in front of the mirror, turn on the tap and splash some water on my face. When I look up, the lights go out. What's going on? Suddenly, everything comes back on. Phew, I'm relieved. I look at the mirror again and see a blurry figure behind me. I turn around, but no one is there. I look back at the mirror, but the figure is gone. I leave the bathroom and head to the living room where my friends were, but no one is there. Where did they go? I call out to them, but no one answers. However, their belongings are still there. I wait, listening to the sounds coming from the upper floor, and I run to the rooms. "Alice, Jack!" I shout, but no one answers. I go upstairs, the stairs creaking under my feet. Suddenly, a shadow glides behind me. I turn around quickly, but there's no one there. The lights in the house start turning off and on by themselves, creating scary shadows in the corners of each room. A chill runs through my body. "And you guys, if this is another one of your jokes, it's not funny," I shout to mask my fear. I listen carefully, but there's no sound coming from my father's room. I knock on his door, "Dad! Dad!" No one answers. I open the door and there's no one there. Where did he go? I head to the window to look outside, when suddenly, the door slams shut behind me. A scream of horror escapes my mouth, "Aah!" Why am I screaming! The lights in the room fixate, illuminating the room with a dim light. I frantically pound on the door for someone to open it, but no one answers. I suddenly hear someone calling my name in a whisper, "Jenny." I turn around to see where the voice is coming from, but all the lights go out at once. The room is plunged into total darkness, only the pale glow of the moon filtering through the window. I'm lost. What's going on?
I forced the door open and finally, it opened. Once outside the room, I'm no longer in my house. But where am I? I look around with the little light there is, and there, I see that I'm in an abandoned cabin. How did I end up here? What's going on? What a mess is this?
I slowly descend the stairs. It's very cold, and I can hear the wind and branches creating a frightening melody. When I reach the bottom, I notice a long painting on the wall that I hadn't seen before when I came here.
I approach the painting and see some strange writings: "Grata to infernum," welcome to hell? Is that Latin? Those are the only words I know in Latin. What comes next? "Invoco te o daemon mali, invoco te potestatem tenebrarum expergisci nunc."
As I read this sentence, the wind becomes stronger, and I hear voices. I can't stop reading, and I start reading out loud, "INVOCO TE O DAEMON MALI, INVOCO TE POTESTATEM TENEBRARUM EXPERGISCI NUNC." I let out a loud scream, and suddenly there is complete silence, no wind, nothing.
"Jenny!" a voice whispers my name. I slowly turn around and finally see the voice that has been whispering my name. I am terrified and frozen at the sight of her, and she quickly jumps at me with a knife. I scream loudly, "AAAAAH..." My friends wake me up, and I jolt from my nightmare. I am relieved that it was only a nightmare.
