And yes, I love the song, Stockholm Syndrome, by 1D. I'm sorry, I can't help it. They own the song I used for most of this chapter. Rights go to them, of course. I wanted to turn a new little leaf in this relationship, so I thought I'd try some gentle song-singing. Young couples do that sometimes. My Percy does it. So, without further ado...Chapter 6!
Percy's face was immensely near hers, as he waited for her answer. But Annabeth faced him with nonchalance.
Annabeth's voice held force. "What is your game? What exactly will be your end play with me? Do you mean to sell me off, kill me, or marry me?
At the last proposal, Percy's cheeks darkened in color. "Don't change the subject," he snapped. A knock at the door called Percy's attention away, and his black hair swooshed towards the door. Annabeth stared at his locks fondly, then shook her head, clearing her head of those thoughts.
She watched as Percy's eyes darkened. He snapped the patch over his eye, uninjured in all its sea green glory. A flash of curly hair appeared at the door, and Percy disappeared with one warning look over his shoulder. Annabeth instantly sighed, back to plotting once again. While she'd hardly admit it to Percy, she rather enjoyed their banters.
Stockholm syndrome was in the room.
Percy could hear someone...singing? That's what he decided it was, as he approached his captive's chambers once more. It was high time they had a serious discussion, where he wasn't busy being lost in her enchanting grey eyes...
Annabeth's whispered song filled his ears, as he approached the door. "Who's that shadow holding me hostage? I've been here for days. Who's this whisper telling me that I'm never going to get away?" I know they'll be coming to find me soon. But I fear I'm getting used to being held by you."
Outside the door, Percy felt torn, caught in the moment. Annabeth heard a humming noise on the other side of the door, and crawled closer to it. The oaken shipboards creaked, but everything else was seemingly calm.
"Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, look what you've done now. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way. Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, you've got me tied down. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way," Percy sang, his melodious voice attracting Annabeth even more than she'd already felt. His hand pounded against the door, as he poured out his deepest emotions, leaning against the oaken entrance. He attempted to keep his voice low, but not a noise could escape Annabeth's sharp ears.
As he paused, for a breath, she began again. She knew the words, as if they'd been building in her heart since the day Percy had captivated her...literally. "Who's this man that's holding your hand? And talking about your eyes? Used to sing about being free but now I've changed my mind," she continued, singing harmoniously. She thought about her words from her perspective. And Percy had certainly done more than hold her hand.
Percy, oblivious to Annabeth having heard his tune, continued slowly, building. "I know they'll be coming to find me soon," he uttered, looking around for his crew, to make sure they neither heard his song, nor understood the meaning. "But my Stockholm syndrome is in your room," he added. "Yes, I fell for you."
Annabeth smiled, at those last words. She'd accidentally won the heart she desired for her own. "Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, look what you've done now. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way," she whispered, staring at the door. "Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, you've got me tied down. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way." She knew she meant every word, as she hummed along.
Percy's words echoed into her chamber, though he didn't dare enter now, "All my life I've been on my own. I use a light to guide me home. But now together we're alone. And there's no other place I'd ever want to go," he stared at the door hopelessly, not imagining that Annabeth felt the same way, nor that he could ever have her. Even if, with all his heart, he did.
Annabeth's hope was boundless by now, as she finished the words that flowed from her very soul. "Look what you've done..."
As Percy's voice streamed through her door..."Look what you've done to me!"
Annabeth's head straightened up and Percy suddenly heard her words, "Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, look what you've done now. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way. Oh, look what you've done to me. Oh, you've got me tied down. Oh, I'll never leave if you keep holding me this way."
