Disclaimer: I don't own these characters! Which is probably obvious :)

A/N: Nico's older than Annabeth in here. It's an AU, and I didn't really want her to flirt with younger guys, although...I just had a brain inspiration! And anyway, Percy's still older than Nico and thus Annabeth (duh). And weirdly enough, the end is kind of Nicobeth. Not really on purpose. Also, in my eyes, this is more PG-13 than anything, so the rating changes a little here. And possibly throughout the rest of the tale. I haven't decided yet.

A SURPISING EXCHANGE

He was examining her like he was in full understanding of how she worked. As if she were his ship, and he knew exactly what she was about. But he'd still been looking at her for a minute too long, and she felt a surprising burst of self-conciousness. His bright green eyes were admirable, she thought. As a prince, she was sure he'd been dashing. Something told her he was almost more dashing like this, his hat titled on his head, his pants slightly torn on the ends, the coarse shirt slightly opened, giving her a great view of his hardened chest...

She looked back up to his eyes, which were now laced with amusement. He'd caught her staring. She blushed quickly, shrugging it off. He moved ever so slightly, and Annabeth watched as the fabric of his shirt rippled to give her a better view. She momentarily ignored the smug look on his face, hoping it would disappear.

Annabeth's day was not a lucky one. Clearly, she was not in favor with anyone anymore. She was carelessly kidnapped, tied up in a pirate's bedroom, and was now being taunted by said pirate's every movement.

But she held her head high, faced with that smirking face.

"Annabeth Chase is a marvel," Percy remarked, as if he were the only one in the room.

He was so close to her, she caught the scent of an ocean breeze wafting around him pleasantly. She closed her eyes, wishing him away, hoping that if she kept silent, he might not bother her.

Seconds later, she opened her eyes, and a smug look appeared on her face. Percy Jackson was not the only one with ideas in the area. She had some of her own.

Percy was taken aback by the expression on her face. He watched as she quickly blinked it away, and it turned into a petient glance in his direction. What game is she about?

She leaned towards him quickly, and he suddenly found her lips pressed against his. He leaned towards her, pressing her back against the leg of his desk. She began to press fiercely into him, and a hot feeling began swelling in his stomach.

He reached around behind her slowly, slitting the knot on her ropes easily with his throwing knife.

Suddenly, a hand was quickly pressing against his stomach, gently rubbing up and down. A shudder rippled through the pirate captain.

He pulled back quickly, staring at Annabeth's widening grey eyes. "What are you doing," he whispered slowly.

Annabeth's own voice came out very carefully. "Kissing you."

It was so like her to state the obvious.

"I thought you...do you know what you're doing to me, Miss Chase?"

Annabeth carefully observed him in the flickers of light rippling from the oil lamp on the desk. His hand was running through his hair in a frazzled way, like he was confused. There was still a tint of red in his cheeks, and his lips were swollen from her fierocity. "That depends on what you mean," Annabeth replied carefully.

"Unraveling me, and a captain should never be unraveled," Percy returned, standing up quickly. Annabeth jumped to her feet, hands now free. She rubbed her sore wrists, as Percy stared out  into the watery distance.
