004: It's More Than Academics

Bukunmi groaned in annoyance as the teacher increased the speed in which he used dictating. There was a projector, a board, yet he chose to dictate the note for them.

"Competition is much pronounced when environmental resources needed for organisms' survival are limited," the teacher rapped out.

"Sir?!" someone cried, tone filled with exasperation and exhaustion.

The teacher ignored the person and continued, "During competition, few organisms are well developed to control the scarce resources which enable them to grow and survive while the others neither grow nor survive leading to their elimination. A sub-heading; types of competition..."

"GOD!" Bukunmi hit her head upon her desk. Next to her, Marcel chuckled, amused at the current state she was in. She unfortunately couldn't catch him while he was at the same pace with the teacher. "I give up." Bukunmi hissed.

The teacher continued his dictation until the period for his subject was used up. He also gave them an assignment and as soon as he was out the door, Marcel stood up with his backpack, ready to head to the Chemistry laboratory. He stopped when he felt a warm hand clasp around his.

He turned around, with furrowed eyebrows, confused to see Bukunmi holding his hand. "What?" he questioned.

Bukunmi smiled, sheepishly. "Borrow me your Biology note, please? I promise to give you back before lunch today."

Marcel stared at her, then wriggled his hand out of her hold. "Why should I lend you my note? I only give notes to people I'm familiar with."

I only give notes to people I'm familiar with, Bukunmi mocked.

"Did you just mock me?" Bukunmi looked up to see a surprised yet amused Marcel raising his eyebrows at her.

"I said that out loud?!" Bukunmi exclaimed and threw her hand over her mouth. "I didn't mean it!"

She infact did.

Marcel didn't say anything, just looking down at her. Bukunmi shifted in the uncomfortable silence and then asked, "You're not giving me your note anymore, are you?"

Marcel smiled, happy she had gotten the hint. "Yes!" he beamed, sarcastic and then turned to walk away.

"Please!" Bukunmi ran after him. "The Biology teacher is crazy, and I don't have any friend to borrow notes from. I'm also not with my laptop."
