They were seated, Liv in the driver's seat and Maddie in the passenger's seat, both breathing heavily. Maddie was the first to speak, "Was that a..." leaving the word unsaid.
"Yes," Liv said quietly. She started the car and drove the two home in silence, both processing the existence of vampires.
.....
Liv and Maddie had fallen asleep together on Liv's queen size bed that night. They were exhausted having discussed what they had seen for most of the night.
The next Monday at school, the girls drove together as usual. They made a plan the night before to act normal and see if they had been pranked or if something supernatural was truly happening in Mystic Falls.
The girls were shocked to see Caroline walking around like nothing had happened, making the girls think they were just gullible. So the twins went to their respective classes and went about their day as usual. Liv was still enamored by Stefan, in her opinion he was dreamy, Maddie couldn't really care less, still recovering from her recent breakup with Diggy.
.....
Caroline had somehow roped the girls into attending the car wash, in her exact words, "if you're not going to participate, you have to at least come show support." And Liv the people-pleaser of the twins was convinced, hoping to finally make some friends and recover from the stupid prank they had played on the 'new girls.'
"Hey, you came," Caroline said giddily, walking over to the twins.
"She made me," Maddie replied flatly, pointing at Liv.
Liv shot her a quick glare and smiled at Caroline. Caroline walked away without saying another word, ignoring Liv.
Stefan saw the downtrodden look on Liv's face, so he walked over to say hi. His kind nature only made Liv like him more. He said a quick, "see you later," and went on his way to find Elena. Maddie was happily chatting with a group of people, they were all athletes. Liv watched as her sister made friends quickly, which normally wasn't her strong suit. Liv just sat, observing the crowd and car wash. She watched as Bonnie and a girl she hadn't met argued, the other girl left to fill a bucket but the water sprayed up at her instead of into the bucket. Liv noticed that Bonnie was looking with a blank but somehow concentrated stare in the direction of the girl and the bucket.
Maddie started talking with the blonde boy, who introduced himself as Matt, about the sports teams at the school. She found out that the only female sport was the cheer team and dance team, two things that were not only of no interest to her but things she wasn't good at.
"Why don't you just try out for the team?" Matt asked referring to the Boy's Basketball team. "Your dad's the coach right?"
"He thinks the guy's team will be too 'intense' for me," she replied annoyed.
"So prove him wrong..." Matt smiled.
"You know what... I will," she smiled back. "Thanks, Matt!"
Liv bored out of her mind started walking around and overheard a strange conversation between an old man and Elena. Something about the Salvatores in the '50s, named Stefan and Damon. Liv recalled that Damon had said the Salvatores in the 1800s were also named Stefan and Damon. It could just be family names, she thought, but two brothers every time seemed odd.
Liv sat down again, to ponder the things that she's seen and heard. She noticed the girl, Tiki, she'd learned, thrust a broom into Bonnie's arms. Bonnie started sweeping but seemed angry. Liv saw Bonnie's face don a familiar look, the blank yet concentrated stare. Suddenly a car burst into fire and Stefan went running, not toward the car to help put it out, but to Bonnie. The fire died down and Bonnie ran away from Stefan and the car wash.
Maddie returned to Liv after a couple of hours and the two left. Maddie wouldn't stop talking about her trying out for the team and the friends she'd made on some of the other sports teams. Liv smiled and half-listened to her twin, thinking about what she could now call evidence. People tended to underestimate her, she had played a dumb blonde on tv so that must be what she is in real life. But in reality, she was smart, smarter than anyone thought, she was just as smart as Parker, the boy genius, as they called him.
They arrived home without a problem. Liv went to her room, she'd said she was doing homework, but she was actually on her laptop researching the things she'd seen. Finally, by 2 a.m. when she'd finished, she came to a conclusion; Mystic Falls had supernatural beings, there were too many animal attacks dating back to the founding of the town, too many incidents like the water and car today. She knew but she couldn't tell her family, Maddie still thought it was a prank, Joey would flip and tell everyone he could, Parker would want to find them, and her parents would probably have her committed. In that moment, she felt very alone.
Author's Note: Short chapter, sorry. Going to skip "Lost Girls" and go straight to "Haunted" (the Halloween episode) next.
