The warm sun kissed your back, attempting to stir you from your slumber. You resisted, tossing and turning as soft groans escaped your parted lips. The warmth of your bed was lulling you back to sleep, just as desperate to keep you in the sheets as you were to stay, but it seemed the world was against you. Soft knocking rapped against your door; you lifted your head slowly, silently cursing the culprit.
"Yes?" you grumbled.
"Hey, I brought you some breakfast," a muffled voice spoke. "It's on the counter for you whenever you're ready."
Hitch.
Your head rested against the pillow once more, eyelids drooping in exhaustion. All you longed for was to shut your eyes, allowing yourself to enter a dream-like state once more, but your stomach's prolonged plea for food said otherwise. "I'll be there in a minute," you called out. "Just let me get up."
The voice chirped a cheerful "okay!", then all you could hear was the sound of footsteps down the hall.
Laying there for a moment longer, you closed your eyes in an attempt to immerse yourself back in your dream. What was it about? You couldn't remember now, though you remember the cold gaze of the moon swallowing you whole.
Ultimately, you realize there was no point in trying any longer. Pulling the comforter- the one you still hated- off your body, the humid air hit your skin. It welcomed each blemish with its warm embrace, clinging to you with each step you took across your room.
You wished you had a mirror in your room to look at your disheveled appearance instead of wandering across the hall hurriedly to the bathroom. But, you didn't. You'd have to write down a list of items you would need for your dorm and yourself.
Tiptoeing down the hall, you pushed open the bathroom door and shut it behind yourself. Once you flicked the lights on, you stared at yourself in horror. Your appearance was unkempt. Strands of hair fell out of your bun and stuck out every which way, the sleeve of your sweater hung loosely off your shoulder, and your eyebags were darker than usual. There was no way you'd meet your roommate for the first time looking like this. Quickly, you strived to make yourself look halfway decent.
In one swift motion, you turned on the sink, watching the water flow. You removed the hair tie from your hair, allowing it to rest on your wrist, and began to flatten your hair using the water. Though it didn't look the best it was a step up. You cupped your hands, scooping up the water and rubbing it against your face. Maybe you'd look more lively, though that drowsy feeling would always haunt your bones.
Then you grabbed your toothbrush, ran it underwater, and applied a good amount of toothpaste. Usually, you would never brush your teeth before eating but you wouldn't want to scare Hitch away with your horrid morning breath.
Finally content with your appearance, you exited the bathroom. Quietly making your way down the hall in a subtle search for your dormmate, you finally spotted her. There, in all her glory, she sat in the middle chair at the small wooden table. A fork was tightly held in her right hand, a piece of pancake awaiting to meet her lips, while her phone was held in the left. She was laughing softly at a video, her eyes shut at the audio played repeatedly.
"Hitch?" Your voice came out shaky, anxiety flooding your bloodstream again. Maybe you should have stayed in bed.
Her head perked up at the sound of her name, turning to find who called. When her eyes settled on you she smiled angelically. "Y/n!"
You gave the girl a once-over, and she noticeably did the same. Her build was slim, pairing well with her oval-shaped face. Her facial features only made her beauty more alluring. Almond-shaped hazel eyes that twinkled with life, long eyelashes that fluttered with each blink, and the cutest button nose you'd ever seen. Her hair was light brown- although easily mistakable for dirty blonde- and kept a short length. Currently, she had it pulled back in a loose ponytail that tickled the back of her neck, loose strands framing her face.
