Ok'xana ogled the baskets of food the neighbouring villagers had brought to that day's breakfast. She hummed a tune she'd heard earlier as her hands hovered over the selection of ripe fruits and freshly baked grains.
"The Mellonfruit are perfectly ripe," a voice behind her stated.
She recognized it immediately and then closed her eyes, suppressing a wince.
"Ana?"
She turned to face Alexx'os, face twisting into a pained expression. "Nobody calls me that, okay?"
"Okay," the boy drawled.
Her eyes travelled over his toned figure, his hair in twists falling over his shoulders. They travelled onto his tense arms and landed on his wrist.
He still wore the shell bracelet she had made him what seemed like ages ago.
She narrowed her eyes on his gorgeous blue pair, feeling her breaths scatter.
"Get away from me," she uttered, turning back to the food. Every muscle in her body was so taut it felt as though she would snap in two.
Her hand hovered instinctively over her knife that was always strapped to her thigh. It brought her slight comfort; the smooth ridges that nipped playfully at her fingertips, warm against her skin.
She squinted her eyes, as she quickly took some bread in her hands and stepped backwards. She bumped into him, feeling her soul jump out of her skin.
She turned and glared at him, "I told you to leave."
He watched her bare her teeth to him, his head inching backwards as hers went forward. "I wanted to say sorry..."
She looked up at him with wide, angry eyes, "Leave."
He shook his head with a laugh and she pushed him away. He stumbled back, still eyeing her as though she were some prey he was challenged to capture.
She turned her head so that he could not see the tears brimming in her eyes. Without a look back, she rushed out of the eating area.
While he gave Tuk some of his food, Neteyam noticed the turmoil out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head to see Ok'xana push a boy who was looking at her harshly.
As the boy was about to follow her to where she had run, he stood quickly, storming up to him.
"Leave her alone," Neteyam warned, shoving him hard in the shoulder, hard eyes scanning his. The boy was clenching his fist, about to ignore when Neteyam repeated, "I said leave her alone,"
The boy blinked at him, then his shoulders fell in yield. Was this Ok'xana's new boy that all his friends spoke about?
From behind him, Neteyam saw Jake gesturing for him to calm down. Neytiri was on her feet as though about to jump in.
He pressed his lips together, feeling his nostrils flare as he tried to control the fury that seeped through him.
He glared at the Alexx'os, his fingers tensing with the struggle not to jab them into his stupid eyes.
Instead, he grabbed a fruit and some meat wrapped in a leaf. He battled with himself over what path he should take. Keep eating with his siblings or follow her?
He finally shouted to his parents, "I'm going to see what happened,"
Neytiri frowned and hit Jake who was smiling proudly. She clicked her tongue to the roof of her mouth as it morphed into a sliver of a smirk.
Neteyam took this as approval, eyeing the other boy with a disgusted expression as he followed her path.
He walked over the paths, gaze travelling over every visible movement.
He spotted her hair swinging as she ran on the beach.
He placed the fruit in his mouth, holding onto a long root as he hopped over it. He watched as her legs carried her over the roots, nimbly jumping over obstacles. He felt himself admiring her swiftness.
It reminded him of home.
She sprinted out of sight and he followed her path with quick feet.
He now neared her. She was sitting against a root that crept above her like a shelter. She was looking out at the ocean. Then, her body convulsed.
His brows raised in distress as he ran faster. Was she hurt?
She seemed not to notice as he walked behind her. Now nearer, he could tell she was sobbing.
Loudly.
Maybe he should've left her alone. He had been ignoring her yesterday.
Still, that dick had been bothering her. He hoped she was okay.
"Um..." he began, feeling himself blush.
