By the end of our planning week, I had learned quite a few things.

Firstly, all of the possible exits to every building within the city of Vrens, where we will be staying for over a month.

Then, the names of every noble within the capital.

Next, how to act, what to wear, how to look.

Also, people I need to watch out for.

And lastly, Ezra was the most irritating person that I remember meeting.

I was to play the role of a noble from a distant city, Ezra my finance. He seemed both happy and sad about that situation, thereby proving my point that he knows something about my missing memories.

We were to stay in one of the palace's guest spaces. We had that to thank due to Dr. Fillsworth. It turns out he had connections in high places.

To make the job easier, both Ezra and I agreed that it would be simpler if we got closer to the heirs, rather than the people already on the throne. Due to the fact that their eldest child basically runs the country for his parents, he holds the majority of the information.

We had been waiting by the gates of the capital for the past fifteen minutes.

Aada had sent us off after dressers had come to both me and Ezra. As one had told me, they were sent to make us look more presentable in the faces of the nobles that lived here. As she had told me, their favor deeply affected the views of the public. Not the laws, per se, but how new members were perceived.

They had pulled my hair back, combing my strands back into a braid. They surrounded my face and were held back starting at the nape of my neck. Smaller braids were also strung through the coil and weaved through it like water. They had dusted my face and curled my eyelashes. Iron decorated my ears, and I was placed into a loose black blouse, that's velvet seemed to absorb the light around me. I was then given sturdy leather boots, with slightly pointed tips and a two-inch heel.

A strong feeling of deja vu overwhelmed me again.

I loved this.

And I had loved getting dresses up before.

SILENCE.

My train of thought came to an abrupt stop, kicking me out of my own mind. A ringing in my ears started, and my eyesight blurred.

I heard a twig snap behind me, and I jolted around to face the sound. Ezra stood there, looking uncomfortable in his own black suit.

I seemed to have caught him before he was aware of my presence, leading him to continue to fidget with his clothes and continue walking long after I had noticed him. Once he had walked out of the shadows, the light reflected off his brown hair, emphasizing the green in his eyes.

They seem so familiar.

His eyes met mine, and sadness seemed to flood his face. His lips quirked upwards, trying to smile.

"Our ride is here."
