Pat sighed. He walked up to his window just as the sun began to set on the horizon, staining the sky blood red beyond the mass of fauna outside his home. The fiery magnitude was quickly vanishing, plunging the world into darkness once again. So, he sighed once again. Just as he did every night when the moon crawled into his view, as if to watch and scrutinise his every move, breath, and thought. He loathed that clump of rock and dust and night-time generally, he much preferred the feeling of the sun on his skin, warming his heart. But tonight was not like other nights where all he wanted to do was run through the wilderness as the stars towered over him and escape this life he was forced to live. No, today was different, unique in a way that had his heart beating faster with excitement and hair on the back of his neck standing up in fear.

Tonight he was meeting the Siridechawat clan, led by the infamous Vampire family his pack have been rivals with for generations. No one actually knows when their feud began or what actually caused them to have such abhorrence for each other, Pat just knew what he had been told, that the Siridechawats were ‘Evil bloodsuckers who are so selfish they couldn’t care for anyone other than themselves, not even other Vampires in their own clan’.

However, despite know one knowing the origin of the hatred, there were many different theories as to why there was so much bad blood between them. Some believe it was due to their ever-lasting fight for control of Bangkok and the land surrounding the city, since both their ancestors had been occupying the area long before it became the mass of skyscrapers and metal it is today. This aided by the fact that werewolves and vampires naturally have a keen dislike for each other no matter the circumstances, a fight for territory was bound to occur.

Pat thought that was probably the most likely scenario, but he enjoyed learning about some of the more idealistic stories people had come up with over time. His favourites probably being The Tale of Cassius and Esme.

The story of a Siridechawat man and Jindapat woman who fell in love despite being different species. The story said they would meet in secret every half-moon and eventually got married illegally since at the time werewolves and vampires were forbidden from the union of love. According to the story, their relationship alongside their unborn child was revealed and brought about a war between the 2 factions leading to the death of both lovers. The clans blamed each other for ‘corrupting and bewitching’ the couple. Cassius was sentenced to death by sunlight, an order his own father gave. And after grief-stricken Esme miscarried, she was neglected medical aid, subsequently leading to her own death less than a week following the death of her husband.

Pat thought there was something so beautiful about the fact two people could love each other so much that it broke the barriers between werewolves and vampires. He knew it wasn’t true though, just a story told to romanticise the feud. Even now, vamp-wolf marriages were extremely looked down on. However, the marriage laws were reformed so it was legally possible even if not socially accepted. Although people were no longer killed due to being in a relationship with someone from another faction, there were many cases of people getting disowned and humiliated by their sept.

Pat’s anticipation grew more every minute thinking about the meeting. Of course, he had met vampires before but had never interacted with them for more than a few minutes. But it was different now anyways, there aren’t just regular vampires they’re The Siridechawats. The most powerful vampire family in all of Bangkok who led a clan of more than 500,000 vampires just in Bangkok.

His family’s biggest rival.

The groups had become less violent over the years and now the feud was more of a strong dislike than hatred but that didn’t mean they wanted to tolerate each other. They each now had a set territory so there was less fighting over land, and they did try to govern neutral areas together amicably as to keep the peace. But the families didn’t want to have to see the other at every problem in said areas, so the families meet once every year formally to discuss matters that involve both parties and even to sometimes strike up deals if tensions weren’t too high. But Pat wasn’t stupid, he could see clear as day that the meeting was partly an excuse to one up each other and show off, the gathering had turned into a kind of Grand party, one where you have a hatred for the people you came to see. Despite being a meeting between the two families, other important guests would also be invited from both factions as well as other peaceful bystander groups such as the fae and sorcerers.
