We approach a clearing, with corn surrounding us in a circle. The man who I learned to be Isaac is at the front, talking. The people, or children rather, were sitting in silence hanging on to every word he said. Obviously they knew he was in charge as well. The others seemed to notice Malachai and I's presence, causing Isaac to notice as well. "Bring him to me." Isaac commands. Malachai grabs me by the back of my neck and leads me up to the front towards Isaac. "Everyone, this is Tobias. He will be joining us so I want you to treat him like you would anyone else, yes?" "Yes Isaac." They respond. He directs his attention to me, "Very well then, you may have a seat." I look up to Malachai for confirmation, not wanting to do anything that would put me, or my Walkman, in 'trouble.' He nods at me and leads me to sit down; me sitting crisscross applesauce with Malachai doing the same behind me. While Isaac continues to talk I feel myself zoning out. Would this be my new life? Being treated like a slave, a part of some cult led by murderous children? I hope they let me out of these ropes soon though, I can already feel them cutting into my wrists. Malachai must've noticed I wasn't listening because I felt a nudge on my shoulder. Turning slightly to the left so I can see malachai, he mouths the words, "Pay attention." With a glare. With a roll of my eyes I face back towards to front, but the next thing I know I'm being pulled backwards and sat right next to Malachai. He grabs the back of my neck and uses his fingers to turn my face towards him. "I'm not kidding," He whispers, "Don't get yourself in trouble." Isaac took notice of the disturbance while talking and gave Malachai a subtle, but questioning, look. Malachai gives him a nod in response, letting Isaac know the situation is being handled. Throughout the rest of the...meeting? Service? Anyway, I could feel him staring at me making sure I was paying attention. When the, lets call it a meeting. When the meeting was finished and everyone was dismissed, Malachai grabbed me under my armpits and lifted me up. He pulls me towards Isaac and they meet halfway. "He wasn't paying attention, and caught an attitude when I told him off for it." Tattle tale. "Is that true, Tobias?" Yes. "No." I respond, Isaac and Malachai make eye contact. Without missing a beat, Isaac backhands me so hard I fall to the floor, planting my face in the dirt. Malachai yanks me back up so I'm facing Isaac while he lectures me. "One thing you need to learn if you're going to survive here, is that you are never to lie to me. I will know if you do and you will be punished. However, since this is your first and last warning, I will let you off easy. Don't make the same mistake again." Malachai yanks my arm so he can lean down and whisper in my ear, "Say thank you." His grip tightens. "T-Thank you, sir." I grit out. Isaac nods, "You are dismissed." Malachai, still holding onto my arm, leads me out of the cornfield and back into the building we were previously in. My stomach rumbles loudly and it is then that I finally notice how hungry I am. I haven't eaten in well over 24 hours. When he hears, Malachai snaps his head over to me. "You're hungry." He says. I nod my head. "What do you say?" He smirks. He's testing me, seeing how far I'll go before I snap. I don't say anything in response. He gives me a look, the looks he's been giving me since I was forced to 'meet him.' I don't want to give in, but I'm starving; and maybe if I do give in I'll actually get to eat. Nope. I'm not gonna do it. I stay silent. Malachai smirks and shrugs his shoulders, "Have it your way kid." He walks over to me and sits me back in the chair, tying my ankles to the legs of the chair like before. "I'm going to leave you here until dinner time. You are not to move, speak, or fall asleep. You are going to sit here in silence and think about your actions thus far until I come back, Do you understand me?" He commands. I still stay silent, staring at him unblinkingly. He gets in front of me and crouches down so he can be at my eye level, arms perched on his knees so his hands hang loosely in front of him. Again, giving me that look. Trying to intimidate me. I Continue to stare back. "You're being disobedient and need a punishment. I'll be sure to inform Isaac." He leaves it at that as he walks out. The only thing I can think about is what's to come when Malachai comes back.
