Menma pov

I wake up yawning softly noticing Naruto sleeping on the bed. "Naruto it's time to wake up."

"Huh what?" He says grogily but does so anyways, obediently he silently mutters a good morning and heads to get ready.

Smiling I start doing my chores, "Hey Menma!" Naruto calls out to me, "let's have breakfast at Ichiraku." He says excitedly.

I smile at his excitement and nod. "Ok." I answer simply. We both get ready to eat out.

"Yeah I'm so hungry I could fall off right now!"

I laugh "please don't." Huh aren't those two I think seeing Sakura and that guy Naruto once called Shikamaru.

"HUH!?" Naruto exclaimed angerly seeing them both. I look at him worriedly as he falls of the roof. Luckily he lands safely and starts to run towed the two.

I silently follow behind him. "Hey what do you think the two of you are doing! Thinking you can go on a date behind my back huh!?" He says annoyed.

"Huh!!!? We aren't dating?" Sakura says hitting him on the head lightly.

Sakura then explains in how Lady Tsunade ordered her to deliver the letter to Shikamaru for his father.

"Oh is that so.." Naruto says chuckling

Shikamaru turns his attention to me. "Hey your that guy that lives with Naruto right?" He asks. I look at him and smile "yes I am, you must be Shikamaru, Naruto told me about you. I am Menma"

"Oh!" Sakura said in realization, "I forgot to tell you guys that lady Tsunade just received a status report from Temari in the hidden sand village."

"The sand village?" I asked, Shikamaru asked,"what kind of report?". "Yeah what kind?" Naruto chimed in.

"I heard that the Hidden sand started a ninja training education,and they adopted the same curriculum as the leaf, the only thing is Temari and her brothers are gonna be the instructors"

"Their what!?" Shikamaru and Naruto exclaimed, Temari, Kankuro and Gaara...Naruto told me about them a week ago I say reminiscing on Naruto's stories as Shikamaru complains how someone as mean as Temari becomes an instructor, even Naruto seemed taken aback.

It all seemed like a happy morning, nothing could've prepared me for what happens next.

Third person pov

"Gaara why?" Shikamaru asks, standing in the Hokage's office. Tsunade shook her head.

"we're not sure, the four challenged Gaara then took off, the hostage is a girl he'd taken on as a student, The enemy is escaping in different directions of the land of Fire from the land of Rivers.Gaaara, Temari,and Kankuro are currently in pursuit of the."

"So you want me to set up an operation based on that!?" Shikamaru asks clearly conflicted .

"Yes, it's important that we remain in good terms with the sand village so.."

"But they've given us nothing to go on" he tries to argue.

"They came during the Sasuke incident with even less information than now."

"But you can't clearly compare this situation with that! Our range would widen significantly if we ambushed them instead of pursuing them."

"Non of the Jonin or Chunin are available since they're investigating the Artisans village. Shizune" she said calling over the girl next to her.

Shizune then proceeds to hand Gaara a clipboard. "You may select any of the genin that are on that list."

"What about Sakura?" He asks.

Tsunade shakes her head. "No she's involved with her medical ninjutsu training."

Shikamaru sighs realizing he's got no choice, "fine I'll accept the mission on one condition, let me use Sakura and Menma."

"Why Menma? I understand Sakura but Menma?" Tsunade asked raising an eyebrow.

Five genin and a dog were all waiting under the gate of the leaf village.

"Hey Shikamaru it's almost time who are we waiting for?" Choji asks.

"We're still waiting for two more."

"Oh no don't tell me." Ino says in annoyance.

"Hey guys! Sorry to keep you waiting I couldn't go on a mission with an empty stomach." Naruto says running towards them, Menma not far behind him.

"Hello everyone." Menma says greeting them with a soft smile.

Ino blushes at the new member. "Oh..hi I'm Ino." She says pushing Naruto aside and introducing herself.

"Alright! Now we've got all out members, we're off!" Shikamaru says ignoring them.

"Huh? This is us? I heard this is some big mission and all the genin in the village was assigned to it." Naruto asks in curiosity.

"Everyone is here already."

"Oh that's messed up! I get that Sakura has her medical ninjutsu training, but Kiba is the only scouting ninja here."

"I hate say it but Naruto is actually right for once." Kiba says gaining a hey from Naruto.

"So what you have organized is a non nonsense group of ninja" Lee says.

Shikamaru nodded, "Yeah,I names us team returned the favour."

They all seemed to cringe at that name, "you guys remember the Sasuke incident? In a manner this operation will returning the favour from that time."

Naruto grinned and tossed his fist excitingly in the air. " All right guys let's make sure to return the favour from that time!"

They all leave and go to finish their mission.

As they all jump around the trees Shikamaru issues their orders, "Ino your with me, Choji, Kiba,and Akamaru I'm counting on you guys, Lee your with Menma and Naruto"

A series of yes and alright was heard from the group.

"The four people Naruto mentioned are already up ahead, they've been sent on a separate group and won't be participating in the battle."

"But isn't that sacrificing alot of our fire power?" Menma asks him.

"In place of that, we get a wider range of search action. And we'll have them focus on medical action in the case of the battle starting. I had to think long and hard on this strategy and your lives depend on it"

They all nod, trusting that Shikamaru's strategy couldn't possibly fail.

"Don't worry Gaara I'll be sure to return the favour believe it!"
