Sabrina Anh

We're on the move again. I believe I have moved about 13 times since my childhood, never being able to make actual friends. My parents are really big architectural designers, so they travel a lot, and they say they don't want to leave me alone, but honestly, they still do with all the meetings and business trips. Now that I am close to turning 18, they have decided that this will be the last time we move, and I'll be staying alone at the new house since they will be traveling a lot.

I don't mind, actually. When I was little, I was closer to my dad; I've always been a daddy's girl, until he got into architecture with my mom. I'm the only child too, so it was always lonely, so I don't really mind being alone. Nanny has been the mother figure that my mother never provided for me. My mom is Dominican; she's strong, tall, tanned, with long, curly hair; strong-minded; and she speaks up all the time. My father, on the other hand, is the polar opposite: he is quiet, dislikes confrontation, is sweet, is still tall, and is from Vietnam. My dad's dearest passion has always been my mom. The way they love each other is wonderful, but I don't think they were fit for having kids.

While I was lost in my thoughts, I felt the car stop. "Sab baby, we are here; come on!" "Oh okey coming". I can speak four languages: English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Korean. The Korean came from someone who just wanted to learn it, while the other three can be a little clearer on why. When I get out of the car, I notice this big house. I wanted to strangle them, and I told them I didn't need anything too big since it was only going to be me and Nanny living in it. Maybe I should get a dog. "Mami, I told y'all nothing big." "Only me and Nana are going to be living here." "Baby, this isn't that big," my lovely mother says. I looked at my dad for help, but he was already inside. "Whatever is too late anyway, come on, mom." "Oh don't worry, Sabby, you've got neighbors too; I made sure of that so you could make friends, you know." Who said I wanted to have friends? "Thank you, mom, I appreciate it," I always say sarcastically.

I look around the house; it's really pretty. I won't lie; I have a pool, and the kitchen is pretty big. I know Nanny is loving it; she loves cooking while I love baking. Of course, I got the master bedroom because my parents are only visiting since they are going to be gone for five months on a business trip to South Africa. I go up to my room, and I see all my boxes there already. "Hey, Bo Bo, I'm going to miss you." Make sure to leave your windows and doors closed all the time. "I won't be here to protect you, my little princess." As soon as I heard the nickname, I knew it was my dad. I'm really going to miss him too, even though he travels a lot. He always made time for me to call, to write, and to send me pictures and gifts. "I'll do that, Cha I promise." I'm going to miss you, too. "Send me pictures and write to me about your adventures with mom, okay?" "I will, baby, I promise I will." "I love you always and forever, and I love you to the moon and back.

After I think five to six hours, I was done unpacking, and Nana came to my room to tell me dinner was ready and my parents were waiting for me to come down and eat. So I go to the bathroom, wash my hands and face, and go downstairs to eat one last meal with my parents. Once I sit down, we start eating, and then my mom speaks to me, "Sabby baby, we will be here for your birthday." "We promise your dad's side of the family wants you to have a party like your quince because in their culture they do that too, but for your 18th birthday, is that okay with you?" "Yes, I'm fine with it," I said, looking up. "My birthday isn't for another 6 months, so there's no rush." " Bo Bo is still early. "Want to go school shopping after we are done eating?" I smiled for my father at the end because it's a tradition we've always followed: no matter how busy he is, he always takes me shopping for school clothes, even if he's still on a business trip. That's why I love him so much—he makes time for me. I mean, I love my mom, but she prioritizes her job over everyone, including my dad, and I know it hurts him, but he is so in love with her. "Of course, dad, I'll shower and get ready to go, okay?" He nods his head, and we finish dinner in silence, then, after I'm done, I get up and go to my room to get ready.

After my shower, I put on some baggy cargo pants, a white crop top, and my white and black Jordans. I grab my wallet and go downstairs, where I see my dad waiting on the couch for me. "OK, little one, OK," he said as he stood up, "let's go; you're driving today." "Dad, stop calling me little one; I'm already 17." "If we're talking about height, I am short compared to my father, who is 6'5", and my mother, who is 5'9." "I don't know why I am only 5'5" and stuck with his height doctor's words, not mine." "Princess, you will always be my little baby, even when you're 45." My parents are quite young too; my dad is only 33 and my mom is 34; they only have a one-year age gap. "Alright whatever, dad, come on hurry; you're too slow, grandpa." "Did you just call me a grandpa, young lady?" "For your information, I'm still quite young, hmm."

Once we got to the store, we went directly to the school section and started to grab essentials. I knew I'd mostly be using my computer, so I didn't grab much, just the essentials. I realized that I needed some lady stuff, so I told my dad that he could get some stuff and I'd be right back to say that I needed to grab some lady products. Once I get to the ladies' section, I see two guys arguing about pads and tampons, so I go over there to help them. "Um, hey, excuse me?" The guys turned around, looked around, then looked down at me. "Yes?" the really tall one answered. "Oh, just you guys looked like you needed help choosing between those, you know," I say while slightly smiling, but my neck hurts from looking up at both of them. Then the second guy speaks up. "Oh yes, would you mind helping us?" "Our mother sent us to get this for her, but we don't know which ones are the medium sizes on each one, and this one over here thinks it doesn't matter." I giggled slightly at these two. "Alright, well, most of the time it says it in the packaging; let me check." I found the ones they needed and handed them over. "Here you go; it says on the sides what kind of sizes they are." I smiled at them while looking up.

"Thank you; you are a living savior; she would have killed us if we didn't get the right ones." I smiled because that is something I would do. "Of course I don't mind." While I was walking away, the second guy stopped me and asked, "Hey, what's your name?" Are you new here? "I just noticed; I have never seen you around here." I smiled and replied, "Yes, I just moved. "I live about five minutes away from the store." "Oh, he said, well, my name is Kang-Dae, but you can call me Dae," he said while smiling at me. "Nice to meet you, my name is Sabrina, but you can call me Sab," I replied. As soon as I finished my sentence, I saw my phone ring, and it was my dad. I smiled at them and said, "Hey, sorry to cut this short, but I have to go bye. It was nice meeting you guys." And I left running to find this old man.
