Before the battle the Overlord of Gavuravas,The Duriyodan describes the Strength of both the armies to his great grandfather Bhisma.
"Mighty warrior of Gavuravas are battling under the leadership of The immortal son of the Ganga our Commander-in-chief The great Bhisma(Bhisma by heart supported Pandavas but his promise to his father made him raise against them, but he agreed on obeyed condition that, karna shall not enter the battlefield as long he is in command this is due to the ego clash between them in past)."
Duriyodan continued "The Maharathas(ancient rank given to the warriors, they capable of leading soldiers) on our side are
Guru Drona,Guruputra Asvathama, kirpacharya & king Salya And My 99 brothers.Our ocean of army consists of 11 Akshauhinis(one akshauhinis means Thousands of elephants, Ten thousands of Calvary, Lakhs of soldiers).
Bhisma listened him patiently and asked.."Dear Duriyodan what about opposite side?"
Duriyodan smirks and spoke "The enemy is not to be taken easily.Their Commander-in-chief is lesser known Dhristadumana.They have also have legions in their side they have total of 7 Akshauhinis with them.But the Mighty and brave five padavas, king Durubatha, General Sikandi.They moreover have the most mischiefes strategist whom we must fear Krishna.
Duriyodan then asked Bhisma about the battle formation for the day.
The GrandoldMan having caressing his long White Beard said "Garud vyuha (eagle formation) will be the one today"
