Chapter One-
June, 1966- Albus Dumbeldore's Office
Numb.
That was the best word to describe the feelings of young Harry James Potter as he sat across from his headmaster the night of the battle in the Department of Mysteries.
Why had Dumbeldrore chosen now of all times to finally answer his questions? He wasn't sure, and he wasn't sure he cared.
"Why did he do it then? Why did he try to kill me as a baby? He should have waited to see if me or Neville looked more dangerous when we were older and tried to kill whoever it was then-"
"That might have indeed been the more practical course." Dumbeldire interrupted before giving him his preplanned schpiel about the imcomete prophecy being the reason Harry was chosen.
It wasn't a lie but it wasn't the whole truth either. Half truths had always been a talent of Dumbeldore's. As he went on to explain about the unique power Harry had of love, the room in the department of mysteries where it was studied and Voldemort's incapacity to love; he wasn't oblivious to the irony.
Because love was not the only reason why he believed Harry would finally defeat Tom Riddle, it was also love, or at least Voldemort's twisted version of love for Dumbeldore had long been of the belief that he was unable and unwilling to experience love by anyone else's definition of the word, that was the true and most significant reason why Harry had been chosen to be the man who would be Riddle's downfall over Neville Longbottom.
