He smelled nice, the bastard.
Like vanilla and ink.
Like citrus and green tea.
That's what Severus Snape smelled like.
It was weird admitting it. Almost unnatural. He thought Severus wouldn't smell like that- he didn't think he would get so attached to it.
But he found out that if you stayed close to him, it was inevitable; Severus Snape was a drug. A powerful drug sweet like honey, and he was slowly getting addicted to it.

James didn't know when it started. He didn't know why, or what it was that made Snape different from everyone else. He had Lily, after all. With her flowery scent and her red hair, her fiery attitude, the girl he desired for years. But something- something always drawled James back to him. To his rare alluring laugh, and his brilliant brain.

And one day, maybe he could have had him.

One day.

He was actually in the garden, thinking about Severus, when Lily came to him. About an excuse, Any type of excuse, so that he could talk to him. Perhaps even get close enough to touch him-
"James, we need to talk." She said. He turned to her, confused. "Whatever about, love?" He tried with a smile, the best one he could manage. She simply looked alway from him.

"I don't think this is working out." She half whispered.

They locked eyes for a second. James hesitated.

"Why?" Had asked James.

"You know why" responded lily, with a brief smile. Somehow, she always knew.

James wished he could say he was sad, devastated, broken. But the truth was, he wasn't. He was not happy, clearly- but something- something felt just right. All he could think about, after lily left him- was how he was going to get the attention of Severus Snape.
And then Severus Snape himself came along- with his long raven hair, his long white fingers, his surprisingly lovely smile.

"You know, crying really doesn't suit you." James heard, it was a soft, gentle voice, and he turned. He was currently in the astronomy tower, his safe place; and usually he would've been bothered. But the voice calmed him... and (he wished he could say it surprised him) it was Severus.

"Don't start it. I am not in the mood." James spat. Severus didn't flinch- he was used to James being that way, after all. He only looked at him, his big, black eyes rolling and his brows shooting up. "You don't own the place, and I have no interest in stopping you. By all means, go ahead, cry. I'll be too high to care in a minute."

Severus sat down a bit far from him, but close enough so that James could see his face being illuminated by the moon. Severus face was pale, incredibly paler now, and his lips were a nice pinkish tint. His eyelashes were long and black, and his eyes ? Oh, his eyes. Deep and dark. He could spend decades explaining why his eyes were fundamentally perfect, proportionate, captivating.

Or how hot it looked when he lighted his joint, lips wet and plump, against the filter.
He had a lot to say. A lot.

"Mummy didn't teach you staring is rude, Potter?" He said, but there was no malice in his tone. On the contrary, he was giggling. Was he already high?

"I hope that thing isn't full of weird shit. You puffed twice and you're already seeing dragons." James teased, but smirked. Severus rolled his eyes again. That was... also very fucking hot.

"No weird shit, no weird shit. It's just muggle weed mixed with some gillyweed. Strong stuff, for sure." He looked relaxed. Then he looked at James for a second. James felt butterflies all over himself. Severus bat his eyelashes- good gods.

"Care for a hit?" Severus proposed, landing him the joint. James was unsure, but decided he didn't care anymore.

"Thanks.." James muttered, as he took it. And damn, Snape wasn't lying. It was strong.
He coughed, and Severus snorted. James started laughing as well, and before he knew it, Severus was laughing his ass because of how hard James coughed because of the spliff.
