Amelia woke up the next day, alone. That wasn't completely without precedent. Plenty of one night stands didn't sleep over when the fun was done.
What was unusual was that there hadn't been any fun. She had spent a few hours in the company of a young lady called Tilly, who worked in sales and enjoyed extreme sports. Amelia had no interest in any of those topics but that didn't present an obstacle to seduction ordinarily. As long as their personality wasn't an outright turn off, all was well.
Only, at the end of the night, Amelia found herself supressing a giant yawn and saying, 'Well, Tilly, it's been lovely to meet you'
'Oh, well. Ok. Yes. Lovely to meet you too' Tilly said, seeming slight put out. As well she might. Both of their profiles indicated they were looking for no strings amusements.
They went their separate ways, and Amelia walked home wondering what had just happened. She decided she was tired. She wasn't a machine, after all. She was prey to the usual constraints of a human body. Everyone got tired.
When she got home around ten, Luisita wasn't in the living room. Amelia supposed she was having an early night. That sounded like a good idea to her. She could climb into bed and finish the book she was near the end of. She headed to her bedroom, which was right next to Luisita's. But before she entered, she stopped to look at Luisita's door. She suddenly felt less tired.
When she realised what she was thinking, she quickly went into her bedroom, shutting the door quietly. She got undressed and started to laugh to herself. Where the hell had that crazy thought popped out of? Amelia didn't see Luisita that way. She'd decided not to ages ago, and when she decided things, she stuck to her guns.
What the hell was that little instinct she had a minute ago to knock on Luisita's door. For what? For that? No chance. Luisita would laugh in her face, for starters. But the odd thing was her and Luisita were intertwined, they lived together. Amelia understood that for some people, emotional intimacy could lead to sex. But not for her.
It didn't matter if she and Luisita were more than just flatmates or people with an agreement to help each other out. Yes, they were friends now, and Amelia could accept that, She wasn't mad about it or anything like that. It was alright. It was nice sometimes, even. Fun. Amelia was alone so much with her thoughts, it felt good occasionally to let them spill out to something besides her laptop. Because Luisita really listened. And she made her laugh. And she was....
Hot.
Unacceptable. She wouldn't have this. She did not want to hook up with her fake girlfriend. Who did things like that? Animals, that was who. People without self-control. Amelia had that. She had that in spades. That was how she never went back for seconds even with the best of them. She drew a line and stood right behind it, never dipping so much as a toe over.
So why hadn't she dipped her toe into Tilly tonight, so to speak? Why had she got bored even before they metaphorical entree was on the table? Alright, so Tilly wasn't a big brain. But Amelia didn't normally care about that. Has she got a nice face, a good body, and a pleasant manner? Yes? Great...Go time. No problems. That was how she worked. She didn't ask for much. Just to trade orgasms with another soul in need of the same.
Except she didn't want it tonight. Not from Tilly. Even though she hit the checkboxes. Somehow, it just wasn't.... enough.
Maybe this was about Amazon Sara. Maybe she was a bit more traumatised by all that than she'd wanted to believe. That was feasible, wasn't it? Buyable? A wrecked window, some light catfishing. It would cause anyone to falter. Amelia had been striding with pride for a long time, but it didn't mean she couldn't misstep now and again.
