Mudfur and Mothwing spent the next few days teaching her about the ways of the Clan cats. She found that almost everything came back to her quickly, and every piece of information took a certain place in her mind, like a puzzle waiting to be completed.

Dawnflower had given her the name of Echokit. She thought it suited her well, considering Mothwing found her because her yowl had echoed.

She was now six moons old, and normally a kit would be named an apprentice at six moons. But Echokit wasn't sure if she wanted to be an apprentice in RiverClan. She wanted to find her birth Clan, but it almost seemed like it would be impossible.

Out of the four Clans, ThunderClan, WindClan, ShadowClan, and RiverClan, she didn't feel like any of them matched her.

She thought of the Warrior Code and remembered Mudfur explaining it to her. It was hard to memorize all of them, but Mudfur reminded them to her every hour of the day until she had memorized them.

Echokit realized for the first time how much the Clan cats depend on the Code to live. Without it, everything would be brought to chaos.

But then the kit realized it was not the code controlling the Clan cats and the forest. It was StarClan.

Mudfur and Mothwing spoke most highly of StarClan. After all, they were medicine cats and they were the ones who interpret StarClan's signs.

StarClan was made up of the four Clan's ancestors who had died, and they watched over the Clans and made sure that they survived. Because without the four Clans, StarClan would be nothing.

Echokit was interrupted from her train of thought as Dawnflower and Mistystar entered the Medicine Den. Dawnflower was carrying a small fish in her jaws, and she dropped it at Echokit's feet.

"Here." Dawnflower nosed the rabbit. "Eat."

Echokit looked down at the prey. She had never tried fish meat before, but she felt her belly growl and the kit realized that if she was going to stay in RiverClan or live the life of a warrior for that matter, she was going to have to get used to eating this food.

Echokit ate in a few bites and licked her lips. It was surprisingly tasty, and slimy, but bearable. Echokit groomed herself as she waited for another cat to continue talking.

"So." Mistystar settled down in front of her and licked her paw, running it over her ear a couple of times. "I want to talk about you."
Echokit lifted her head in confusion and suspicion. Mothwing and Mudfur were talking in low voices in the herb cave and it made the kit uneasy.

"About me?" She asked.

"Mudfur told me you have something called amnesia, the loss of memory," Mistystar said. "It was caused by bumping your head too hard."

Echokit stared at the leader. Was that why she couldn't remember anything? Why didn't have any memories in her mind?

The kit pondered on that for a moment, until she realized Mistystar was still staring at her.

"Is that it?" She asked, wanting to go back to sleep. It was nightfall right now, and every cat was beginning to sleep. Plus, she wanted to have time to think about her diagnosis.

"No," Mistystar answered. "I know it's not my decision, but you should decide if you want to stay in RiverClan or find your birth clan." Mistystar narrowed her eyes. "If you do want to stay here, I would welcome you. RiverClan is always looking for new warriors." Mistystar stopped and closed her eyes for a moment. Dawnflower purred encouragingly and pressed her nose into Mistystar's flank. "I would choose a mentor for you and you could live your life here. However," Mistystar stood up. "If you are planning to search for your birth clan, I will not help you. Lives may be lost."
