Echowing's heart pounded. What was she thinking, leaving her kits like that? Her mind wound around all the things that could have happened. Everything made her want to scream.
Bluetail stopped in his tracks in front of her, and Echowing had to dig her claws into the ground to avoid running into him. He turned in a circle, then suddenly yowled, "Get down!"
The hot breath and the sting in her stomach made her yowl as she felt teeth plunge into her, but her instincts kicked in and she clawed at the animal's muzzle, and it dropped her with a bark.
"DOG!" Cats screamed around her, but some pulled themselves together and started to fight back as the dog threw cats into the air with its big paws. The same dog that hurt Wavefire. The same dog who has been living in our territory, stealing our prey, causing our cats to be fearful in our own home.
Echowing's whole body roared in agony, and she felt blood seep into her fur where the dog's sharp teeth had been, but fear and anger drived her toward the dog, and she joined Blackclaw and Hawkfrost as the circled the dog, distracting it while Bluetail, Waterstar, and Stormfur jumped onto it, dragging their claws across its skin.
Rockheart and Pebblewing hissed furiously and charged at its face, slicing their claws across its ears and eyes.
"Finish it!" A cat's voice yowled. "This is what we will do to ThunderClan!"'
The dog barked and yowled as Waterstar plunged down, slipping under the dog and its stubby legs and swiping fiercely at its underbelly. Blood splattered across his fur, but he kept going, until the dog toppled over.
A yowl sliced through the air, more painful than anything else. Waterstar was stuck underneath the dog's heavy body. Echowing charged down, yelling, "No! Waterstar!"
RiverClan worked together to push the dog off, but the canine was too heavy. Echowing let out a wail of despair and crouched down on the floor, her head in her paws. Bluetail put a comforting tail on her and said, "He has nine lives. He should make it out alive."
Paw steps thundered toward them, and a ginger and black and white cat stepped out of the reeds, looking around. Hawkfrost hissed at them as they took a step forward.
"We are not here to restart the fight." The ginger cat said. "Please, let us help you. My name is Sunfur, and this is Moonwhisker." RiverClan looked to Echowing, and she felt a surge of pride that her clanmates wanted her to decide.
Echowing looked up at the ThunderClan cats, noting that Moonwhisker looked similar to Tidalkit. That must have led Echowing to trust her, so she nodded and said, "Anything to save him."
Sunfur worked together with Stormfur, Hawkfrost, Bluetail, Blackclaw, Rockheart, Pebblewing and even Splashfur helped a little bit. Together, they rolled the dog off. Volelimp had ran to get Wavefire as soon as the dog attacked, and they returned as Waterstar's tail appeared.
"Push harder!" Sunfur yowled. Moonwhisker led Wavefire over to the dog, and the medicine cat dropped her herbs, sorting them into neat piles and twiddling her paws. She must be as nervous as I am. Waterstar is her brother.
As soon as Waterstar's whole body was revealed, Echowing charged forward. Bluetail looked down at him and whispered, "He has nine lives, right?"
Wavefire looked around at the Clan. "No. StarClan would not give him his lives because he was never the right cat. They said I interpretted the vision wrong."
Echowing's whole world collasped. No, no, no, no. This can't be happening. "He is with StarClan know."
Echowing turned to look at Wavefire, her legs shaking. "This is StarClans fault!" She yowled and started to cry. Moonwhisker and Sunfur stood off to the side, looking helpless.
