Last night was a bit overwhelming. I had not expected things to escalate the way they did. Professor Fig told me that it was probably best that I worry about my studies and finding my place here at Hogwarts. I was excited to be sorted into my house last night- almost as excited as I was to get some well deserved rest. One glance at the food table was all it took for me to realize that this place was going to be the change I needed.

I let out a yawn as I stretched out my arms. Professor Weasley was going to meet me outside my dorm to escort me to my first class. This place was huge. An endless castle that seemed to only get bigger the more you explored it. I am still processing the fact that magic exists and that I have the ability to use it. It's surreal. I feel like I am dreaming and that any second now, I will wake up in that dreary orphanage.

I finally decide to get out of bed and get dressed for my day. I put on my school uniform along with my house robes. I was excited to see where Slytherin will take me. Apparently, the sorting hat took longer than usual to place me from what I heard through the whispers in the castle. I run my fingers through my waist-length red hair. I have a natural wave to my hair that would turn frizzy if I ran a brush through it. This should suffice for now. I opened the door and my eyes immediately find Professor Weasley.

"Good Morning, Dear. Did you sleep well?" She ask.

"I slept very well. Thank you for asking." I replied with a smile. I probably should have woken up a little earlier so I could scope out the breakfast here.

"We haven't much time. We must get to your first class. Defense against the dark arts will be an insightful class indeed. Follow me." Professor Weasley says as she heads down the hall.

I guess the extra minutes I stayed in bed this morning encroached on our schedule seeing as how we are in such a rush. I do not regret it though. I really did need the five more minutes of sleep. We continue to walk down the hall and towards the grand staircase. I glance around in awe as I watch portraits dance with life and stair cases move as if it were normal. This is going to take some getting used too.

We finally arrived upstairs to a large classroom filled with students. There are practice "dummies" in the corner of the room and a large dragon Skelton hanging in the ceiling. I glanced around and noticed everyone was staring at me. Professor Hecat greeted me quickly as I took my seat.

Professor Hecat took her place in the front of the class room. "Today we will review a spell that has saved me from death at the hands of Dark wizards more times than I care to remember. Levioso." She says to us all.

"Levioso? A levitation charm?" Some Gryffindor spat at her.

Professor Hecat smirked and turned quickly to the boy."Levioso." She said as the boy started flying through the air with a shocked look on his face.

"A surprised opponent is a weak opponent. Care to defend yourself, master Prewett? No?" She said with a matter-of-fact tone.

She went on about the wand movements and is now letting us practice on goblets. I swished my wand and said the incantation exactly as instructed. The goblet slowly lifted all the way up to the ceiling. I smiled at myself.

Professor Hecat smiles at me. "Very good, but the best way to practise is by dueling." She says to the class.

She glanced to my left and then back at me. "We'll start with you two." She says as she gestures to the designated dueling spot. A boy around my age steps forward. He has dark brown hair that was purposefully messy. The green robes indicated that he was a Slytherin too. The robes brought out his green eyes. He was tall. At least a whole foot taller than me. To be fair, I was only 5"2 so it wasn't hard to appear tall to me. He was was one of the most attractive boys I have ever seen. Clearly everyone thought so too because every girl here was swooning and looked like they were hoping he would spare them a glance. I bet that fuels his ego. He seemed pretty pleased to have his own fan club. I wonder why he looks so smug. I can't wait to humble him real quick.
