You were seated next to Ren on a solid shiny diner booth. Across from you was Jonas with Alex to his side on an opposite booth.
The four of you were at a pizzeria.
Ren was currently talking about childhood memories.
"She looked like a shriveled raisin in the tub," said Ren.
"Aaaaaaaa, Ren!"cried Alex.
You were trying hard to bite back a laugh. Jonas gave a wry smile.
A waiter came over. He was a teenager with purple hair.
"What would you like to drink?" he asked, almost nervously. His name tag, pinned to his shirt said 'Milo'
"I'll have water," said Alex.
"I'll have [preferred drink]," you said.
"No drinks for me, I'm here for the pizza," said Ren.
"Just a soda," said Jonas. His voice was way deeper than Ren's.
"Of course," Milo, the waiter, said, and he quickly walked away.
Ren resumed his conversation about Alex looking like a potato in the tub. You begin to giggle-
when suddenly you felt something rest on your foot.
Another foot. You looked up and Jonas was smirking at you.
His heel went right on your toes but you quickly put your foot over his. He tilted his heel, dropping your foot, and then pinning it down with his own.
You tried to slip your foot out of it, but he kept it in place.
Was this playing footsie?
His other foot, tried to pin your other foot, and you kicked gently back.
You felt a smile pull at the corner of your mouth.
BEEP.
A loud static sound suddenly came off Ren's radio. It was shrill, making your ears hurt.
Ren tried to turn it off, desperately.
"What in the great-" he began.
Then the lights went out. It felt like a long time. Jonas' foot was still on yours.
A single light over your head flickered on. Jonas was still there. Ren and Alex were gone. Ren's radio was on the table.
"Alex?" said Jonas, his eyes wide, as he began to stand up, His foot got off yours.
"Ren?" you found yourself calling out.
"T-imeloops,"
came a voice off the radio in between the two of you, silencing you both.
The voice was all chopped up, "T-une radio- *squeak* to right stations. Ghosts- be there soon."
The radio speaker shut off with a squeak.
"What the hell," said Jonas.
With trembling fingers you reached to pick up the radio.
A hand clamped down on your wrist.
"What are you doing?" exclaimed Jonas, firmly holding your wrist.
"Taking the radio," you blurted, "It could help us."
"We don't know who that is!"
He slowly released you.
"Look, I'm sure Ren and Alex are outside," he said, "They decided to suddenly go out during that black out."
He didn't seem to believe it himself but you both decided that must have happened, since they couldn't just disappear out of thin air?
You sat up slowly, and then quick paced to the entrance door, you felt Jonas behind you.
You reached to exit the front door of the pizzeria but as soon as you touched the handle a whirring sound came to your ears, like a rewinding tape, static went over your vision, and you both found yourselves seated back at the booths.
What...just happened?
Then the voice on the radio came in your mind. The first thing they said.
"Timeloops."
Jonas's eyes were darting to you and the door.
"Jonas we should listen to whoever was on the radio," you said,"Remember they said something about...time loops?"
He stared at you.
"They also said something about ghosts," he said, incredulously.
Flicker. Flicker.
The bulb over your head started flickering.
The color of the bulb suddenly changed from a dull white to a bright red.
And that's when you noticed Jonas' eyes.
They were glowing red too, along with his mouth. which was aglow red, open in a grin.
"Y/N,"
spoke 'Jonas', with a demonic voice.
"Thought. You. Could. Escape?"
Ghosts.
What else had the voice said?
"T-une radio *squeak* to right stations."
You snatched the radio- it practically stuck to your clammy hands, and you wiggled out of the booth.
'Jonas' grinned wider,, as he sat up and followed you.
"You won't do that, dear," 'Jonas' said.
'Jonas' lunged at you. You slammed into a wall, as his hands met your shoulders. One hand moved and grabbed your throat, while the other tried to take the radio.
"Give the radio to us, Y/N dear."
You could barely breathe. Tears automatically came to your eyes, blurring your vision.
"J-o-," you wheezed, trying to say Jonas but failing.
'Jonas' eyes were practically slits, because he was grinning so wide.
Jonas's face suddenly went blank.
"Oh. The boy is. Fighting. Back."
Then a voice that sounded less demonic.
"Leave her alone."
Two voices coming from the same body.
He released you, clutching his head. Air entered your lungs again, and gasped for breath, a tear slipping down your face. The light faded from his eyes and mouth- his eyes returning to their hazel color. You both stared at one another, your chest heaving and him looking weak.
BEEP.
The radio in your hands let out the same shrill sound.
Static went over your vision, and you both found yourselves once again sitting across from each other at the booths.
Alex and Ren were also back.
They were talking as if nothing happened.
Jonas slumped to the side and you were heaving trying to make up for the air you lost.
It was over.
