CHAPTER I

It's currently January, the holidays had come and gone quickly and after having taken Sebastian over to see my parents for the first time, all felt comfortable. Natural. I could see our lives beginning together as a couple, building a stable future together for us.

The sound of my shoes against the cold tile stone of the hallway was lonely, clutching my books in my arms as I hurried my way over to Mrs. Hecat's class. I was looking forward to the last semester of the Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. We'd be learning more about working as an Auror. Something I knew Sebastian was particularly interested in.

Though he and his uncle - definitely - hadn't always seen eye to eye, he was determined to follow in his uncle's footsteps. And quite frankly, with his knowledge of the unforgivable curses and spells outside of the school's curriculum, he was sure to become one of the best and most influential Aurors in the wizarding world's history.

I hoped to gain a position here at Hogwarts. Or at least, that's my ambition. With my talent for potion making and Mr. Sharp's leg worsening, I was hoping to become a worthy replacement.

"Good morning class, trust you all had wonderful holidays," mrs. Hecat commenced, her eyes proudly perusing among her students. "The challenges you will face in second semester of your seventh year at Hogwarts will be unmatched. Unlike any other you have ever faced before."

Her hands rose, beckoning us all to stand up. "Now, we will be proceeding to the Great Hall, as headmaster Black has an announcement for all of the seventh year students. Come along."

——————

Sebastian gazed at me from the Slytherin table, his watchful eyes on me the entire time. Intently so. I winked at him and a sly smile crept on his face. Next to him was Ominis, gazing up at the ceiling. I never quite understood why he did that, considering well... He couldn't see anything.

"Dear students," headmaster Black began as he walked across the stage. A large ornament behind him, seemingly engulfing something. "As it is my pleasure to inform you that this semester, we will be hosting two other schools at Hogwarts."

My eyes scanned the room, noticing mister Moon standing by the entrance doors to the Great Hall. "And honoured am I to welcome the seventh years of both the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. Please join me in giving them a warm welcome!"

The doors swing open and in come the students of both Durmstrang and Beauxbaton. Their headmasters following suit.

"This year, Hogwarts is hosting the Triwizard Tournament, as is often described as one of the most challenging and testing of events." He continues, mrs. Weasley's eyes right on me as she purses her lips in thought. Knowing exactly who would be entering.

My gaze went over to Sebastian, who looked more excited than anything. "No." I whispered to myself, earning a worried look from both Abigail and Poppy.

"Now it is known that only the year seven students are allowed to enter for the minimum age of 17 and their knowledge of spell casting, charms, herbology and potions." He continues on. "The rules are simple. Enter your name on a piece of parchment and throw it in the Goblet of Fire before coming Friday and the cup will select its champions. Only one champion of each school will be selected."

I feel my heart thumping in my chest, my palms becoming sweaty as I see the determined look on Sebastian's face. "I must warn you, however. Students have died in these kind of tournaments. Once entered, there is no turning back."

——————
"You are not entering!" I shout at the top of my lungs as I see Sebastian scribbling his name on a piece of parchment. "Sebastian, you must realise the importance of this, you cannot and must not be so reckless." Ominis countered, a slight angered expression on his face.

Sebastian sighed, running a hand across his features before pushing the chair back and standing up. "I acknowledge that the both of you are interested in my wellbeing. However," he retorted, his eyes focusing on me. "I have to do this. You wouldn't understand."

"Is this because of Anne again, Sebastian!?" Ominis began again, raising his voice. I winced, crossing my arms over my chest. "Give it a rest! She will not be coming back from the dead and proceeding to think that you can still find a cure is futile! She is dead, Sebastian! Dead!"

Those words seemed to have an impact, though not in the way Ominis would have hoped. There was a long silence and the air was thick with tension. "Sebastian please- For us. You cannot- I will not allow it."

He turned on his heel and looked over his shoulder. "I'm sorry, love."

——————

Slytherin students were cheering as they noticed Sebastian walking up to the Goblet of Fire, chucking the piece of parchment into the goblet without flinching and with full determination. "Yeeeees, Sallow!" One student cheered, the others clapping and chanting his surname. "It makes me nauseous." I croaked, feeling Ominis step a tad bit closer to me. "He put his name in that goblet. There is no guarantee he will be selected, Clara. Confide in me, there are more talented students here at Hogwarts than just Sebastian."

And I know he was trying to ease the sting of what I had just seen, but we both knew that with his knowledge of spells - especially in the Dark Arts - the goblet would be choosing him. There was no escaping it.

"Hope he is proud of himself." I muttered before turning onto my heel and running off towards the Hufflepuff common room.

—————

"You must be so proud though, Clara," Abigail began. I was lying on my bed, looking up at the skylight. A sigh escaped my lips, closing my eyes for a moment. "Yes, Sebastian is showing tremendous courage. I know I don't have the heart to-"

"Enough!" I shout, jerking up from the bed. My hands were fists resting on my legs. "Don't you see? It's dangerous- Deadly dangerous and he treats it like it's some sort of game as though nothing means to him- As if I don't mean anything to him!"

Abigail and Poppy went silent. Deadly silent even. One could hear a pin drop in our dorm. "I-I'm... Going to take a hike around the grounds." I announce quietly. Rising up from the bed and hurrying out of the dorm and common room.

—————

The night sky and cool air greeted me, feeling a sense of serenity and relief wash over me to be away from people who didn't understand what it was doing to me. There was only one person who cared as much for Sebastian as I did. And that, was Ominis.

I made my way up the steps to the astronomy tower, knowing that the view would calm me down.
However, I noticed fairly quickly that I was not alone and I could hear footsteps on the upper deck.

"Ominis," I voiced, seeing him pace around and stop dead in his tracks as a result of my speaking his name. "Clara. Trust you have issues sleeping as well?"

I nodded, humming in confirmation and Ominis smiled - briefly. "It's nice to know that I am not the only one worrying for Sebastian. He should know better than to throw his name into that damned goblet."

"I sort of see why, but it's not worth risking your life for answers. I know I wouldn't and couldn't."
But Ominis clearly disagrees. "It would be as if I had entered my name in that tournament. You can be as gifted a wizard as you wish, one mistake and it can end."

He was right. But we didn't have a choice but to wait and see who from Hogwarts would be selected into this tournament. Of course, if Sebastian was selected, I would do anything and everything in my power to aid him through it. And surely, Ominis would be doing the same.

"I guess we will have to wait and see whether or not he is selected. And if he is..." I started, a sigh falling from my lips and Ominis stopped dead in his tracks.

"Then we will do everything in our power to make sure he makes it out of that tournament alive and well."

Had to include the Goblet of Fire, right? 🤩
Makes for a good storyline and I am so, so thrilled for this story! You have no idea.

Do you think Sebastian will be chosen for this Triwizard Tournament? He does possess all the knowledge, stealth and ambition for it...

Hope you enjoyed reading this part!

All the love,
