I don't know how long I laid there with Soap petting my hair. What I do know is that at some point Rudy got up and asked Soap a hushed question. Soap simply responded he'd explain later and dismissed the man. Every time a new patient appeared, Soap would gently shake me awake and I would attended to them and then return to my spot next to him.

Around late afternoon Soap said he was getting hungry. I raised my head and rubbed the exhaustion from my eyes. I slowly stood and went to grab him something from the Mess Hall. I grabbed myself a quick meal as well. I turned to leave when I hit my face into a strong chest. I back up a step and looked at the figure. To my relief it was Ghost. "How is Johnny." I gathered myself, "Oh. He's just fine. Healing quite well. It's nice to have the company." The large man seemed content with the answer and nodded. In a whispered tone he asked, "Can I see him?" I stifled a giggle. Such a rough around the edges guy but on the inside he was real softie for the Scot. I passed John's food into Ghost's hands.

"Yeah, go give him this and tell him I'll be back in a second." The man nodded again and hurried off to the Medbay. All I needed was a drink for myself and I'd make my way back. I grabbed a water bottle and a Coke and began to head back. Before even at the entrance of the Mess Hall, I saw the last guy I wanted to see.

König.

Our eyes locked for less than half a second before he sheepishly looked at his boots. My glare threatened daggers at him but I knew it was meaningless. I may have been mad at him, but I was even more pissed at myself for letting my emotions go like that. He stayed stuck to the ground as I continued to walk forward. Our arms brushed past each other and I heard him quietly mutter something to himself.

Back in the Medbay, I found Soap and Ghost chatting as Soap munched on his meal of chips and a sandwich. I tossed the water bottle at him and Ghost caught it before Soap even had the chance. He coolly cracked it open and set it on Soap's bedside. I was about to sit and begin my own meal when Soap called my name. "Meet anyone cool in the Mess Hall?" I shook my head before I replied, "No just Ghost and König." Soap took a sharp inhale between his teeth. "Ah. What's going on with you guys? What was earlier about?" I glanced over at him to see his expression laced with worry. I could tell him the whole story, in fact I wanted to, just to get it off my chest. The menacing presence of Ghost held me back. I can't spill all my secrets in front of the masked man. So, instead of an explanation,"Nothing. König and I are nothing." I gave the pair a little smile and nearly choked myself with my sandwich.

A few more hours passed and eventually my colleague showed up. Ghost and Soap had left a couple hours before after I made sure Soap's wound was healing correctly and gave him a shirt to wear. No one else came in as there was no mission today so everyone rested. Once the other doctor was settled I nearly bolted out of there. Nothing sounded nicer in the moment than a shower and sleeping.

I quickly reached my room and there stood a tall figure at my doorway.

Scheiße. Nicht jetzt.

I approached my door and caught the attention of the man who waited god knows how long for me. "König," I greeted him simply. He stiffened and stared down at me. "Engel! You're here." I nodded, "Yes. I just got off an extra long shift I took to care for Sergeant MacTavish." König's shoulders seemed to deflated a bit at the mention of the smaller man's name. "O-oh. How was that?" It was a completely innocent question but I sighed loudly at it. "Cut the shit, König. Why are you at my door waiting for me."

"I..um...I just wanted to talk."

"About what?"

"About us..."
