Seeing stars illuminate the sky

Sonic stared at the fox kit in front of him,he honestly didn't know what to do,he wasn't expecting the kit to follow him much less be able to slightly catch up to him.

"thanks,for helping me" The kit said Sonic gave him a thumbs up and a smile

"Can I ask you something?" The hedgehog nodded "why don't you talk?" it took him a second to answer,how do you even explain that you can't speak without speaking? it's not like there was anywhere where he could write. He pointed at his mouth then shook his head

"you...can't speak?" Sonic quickly nodded,he saw how the kit started thinking,his twin tails swishing behind him. Suddenly he lit up "I think I have something that might help! Follow me!" The twin tailed fox ran off towards a nearby forest.

Sonic followed him until the kit went into a cave,he simply shrugged and followed him. It wasn't really big and the amount of things thrown around definitely didn't help.

The fox-he really needed to ask what his name is-looked through the papers and what Sonic assumed was trash that was on the floor before pulling out something and walking back to where Sonic was

"Here!" He handed Sonic a rectangle shaped thingy,the hedgehog looked at him questioningly "you can write on it" the kit grabbed the thing again and turned it on,a keyboard appeared on the screen "It's kind of like a tablet" he gave the "tablet" back to Sonic

The hedgehog looked down at it for a bit before writing a 'thank you' though it took him a while to do so

"You're welcome!"

'By the way, what's your name?'

The kit's tails stopped swishing "it's Miles,Miles Prower,but I don't really like it" the fox- Miles-fidgeted with a loose string on one of his gloves

'Why don't you choose a new one then?'

"Like a nickname?"

'Yeah! Like that'

"Well I just can't think of anything"

Sonic looked at him for a bit before going back to writing 'how 'bout "Tails"?'

"It's nice,I like it" Tails smiled and Sonic smiled back

'so, Tails,is this where you live?'

"Yup! Do you like it?" He proudly smiled,Sonic looked back at the cave

'yeah,it looks great,buddy!' This place made him feel bad already,but this cave plus the way the kit looked so thin and dirty made him feel ten times worse.

It wasn't even like he himself was the cleanest mobian alive,hell he was probably in a worse state than Tails,but there was something that made him feel so worried for him.

'so,do you live by yourself?'

"Mhm!"

He could feel the worry grow

'and,how old are you?'

"Uuh 3? Why are you asking all of this?"

That made the worry even worse,he shook the thoughts away

'I was just curious,say,do you like planes?'

The kit smiled brightly "yeah!"

'wanna see mine?'

Tails gasped loudly "You have a plane?!" His namesakes were spinning so quick that he looked like he was about to fly

'yup, follow me'

"Woah! It looks so cool!" Tails walked around the tornado,Sonic silently chuckled at the fox's amusement

"Can I?" Tails asked and pointed towards the cockpit of the biplane

'sure,go ahead'

"Thanks!"

He could see the kit looking around excitedly.

He smiled,maybe it wasn't such a bad thing that Tails had followed him.

Maybe the fox could join him on his adventures,he did miss having someone to be around.

Tails walked over to where Sonic was, his namesakes were swishing wildly in excitement

"Your biplane is sooooo cool! Thanks for letting me see it!" Tails smiled,he smiled back

'you're welcome' Sonic fiddled with the tablet for a bit,The kit looked at him curiously 'so,you said you were alone, Right?'

"Mm" The twin tailed fox nodded "why?"

'well I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to explore new islands'

"Of course I'd like to!" Tails rocked back and forth on his heels "when do we leave?"

'whenever you want to. As long as it's not at night'

"Okay! Oh,can I go grab some of my things?"

'sure. Let's go'

Sonic looked around the cave for what felt like the 100th time.

It was weird, everytime he remembered the way Tails lived here,the way the kit looked so thin and dirty plus the fact that he got bullied because of his extra tail? It made his heart hurt so badly,it wasn't something that he had felt before.

He walked over to Tails' "bed" and grabbed the blanket,it would probably be helpful.

He looked back towards the fox only to see him carrying a pile of whatever those things were.

He quickly grabbed some of it before it fell

"Thanks" the fox mumbled under a smaller pile of things "I think I have everything"

Sonic reached to look through his quills with his free hand,then he pulled out Tails' tablet

'we should start getting the tornado ready to leave then'

"Hey Sonic!"

The hedgehog looked up from the tablet and waved at the fox,Tails handed him a piece of paper

'what is this?'

"It's supposed to be an alphabet for sign language,well at least that's what the lady who gave it to me said"

'sign language?'

"Yup, according to her it's how mute and deaf people talk with others,I thought it would be more helpful than the tablet I gave you"

'yeah,no offense,I really appreciate this tablet but it's not really safe for me to carry it in my quills 24/7'

Tails nodded and sat down next to him "So we're going to try to learn it?"

'yeah! If you want of course'

The kit smiled and snuggled closer to Sonic to be able to read.
