Taehyung's POV
“I know you are out there.”
I narrow my eyes. Who is she talking to? I try to look over her shoulder but when Lee turns to face the trees I hide in, I tilt my head. She can’t see me. It is impossible. Not even the younglings could and they were hunters.
Even if her sense of smell is good, it cannot be that good. I am against the wind for fuck’s sakes. I swear this town is making me doubt everything I know. Lee licks her lips and smiles. “Fine,” the girl says with an edge to her voice. “I didn’t want to do this, but you are twisting my arm. Let’s have it your way, then.”
She wraps her hand around something at her back and before I can figure out what it is, a dagger flies in my direction. I barely have any time to react.
“Son of a bitch-”
I dropped to the floor. Gracefully, may I add. But Lee is already running before I can step away from her trail. Her fist comes straight to my face, but I dodge. She then tries and goes in for a kick, but my leg brushes it away. When her other hand comes straight to my face to land a blow, I grab her wrist.
What the actual fuck? How is she so fast?
Lee tries once more to smack me straight between my eyes and I lean back. Once, twice, she comes after me. Even in the dark of the forest, I can see her determined stare. Lee slides the blade in my direction, with all the intentions of stabbing me in the neck.
I manage to step away, and she does the same. Panting, but not as much as I was expecting, Lee finally gets a look at me. At my face. Her eyes widen and the girl snarls out the word. “You.”
I smirk. Which seems to make her angrier. Good. She should be angry. She should be as angry as I am. I don’t know who this silly girl thinks she is, but it is a fucked-up world for her to be pretending she is in some episode of The Vampire Diaries. Little girls like her should be at home minding their own business and watching tv. Or playing with their dildos. Whichever suits her best.
“Me.”
“You are the asshole from the car accident. What are you doing here?”
Asshole? How dare she? I was nothing but pleasant. Even if I wanted to rip her fucking head off. I did not. It only shows how much of a good Samaritan I can be. She sniffs in my direction and comes to a realization of exactly who I am. I can see how her mind puts two and two together and she tries to make sense of the body behind her. Then me. Fucking hell. Of course, she is going to think I did it.
I swear I am sending a text to a witch to clear my luck. I cannot catch a break.
“I didn’t kill her, if that is what you are thinking.”
Lee scoffs. “You’re a vampire, and you are just casually strolling around a dead girl’s body deep into the woods. Where no one else could hear her scream. It is also pretty close to the border so you wouldn’t be caught. What else should I be thinking?”
This girl isn’t going to believe me. Hunters are like donkeys, stubborn as fuck and see nothing else but what’s right in front of their nose. I sometimes question myself how can they be so strong and fight monsters like me.
“Listen stinky...” I say and she snarls at the pet name. “I was coming around to check on the body. I could smell the girl in the distance. You are right. We are close to the border and out of your jurisdiction. But I did not kill her. She was dead by the time I made it here. And why would I stay put after killing her, anyway?”
Lee snorts. For fuck’s sake. I reach the phone out of my pocket and the amusement drops from the girl’s face. “I have this,” I say. “It was on her body. It’s proof I didn’t lure the girl here and killed her.”
Sometimes we have to lose something in order to get something. I am pretty sure the younglings are around and will come back to check on Lee if she doesn’t return in the next few minutes. After her scold, they are not taking chances. A car door slams in the distance and I know I don’t have much time left.
“How is that proof?” She asks. “And I have questions about earlier-”
“Of course you do,” I smirk. “And it sucks I do not want to talk about it.”
Lee takes a step closer and her perfume or whatever the hell it is smacks me again. It smells wrong... but it doesn’t at the same time. She still smells like a hunter’s lair, but also like the night after it rains. This town is messing with my mind. Lee clutches the dagger closer to her, the leader burning against her skin, and I decide the phone is not as important as I thought it would be. I throw the phone in the air for her to catch up, but make it on purpose for it to fall out of her reach. Her attention snaps from me for the briefest second and I take advantage. Even if she is fast, I am faster.
When Lee turns around, I am already far away.
