Y/n's POV

I woke up to a noise outside my door. I looked over at the clock near me and saw it was only five in the morning. I sighed and looked at the door leading into my room. I saw a head snapback from the door's window. I slowly got out of the hospital bed, ignoring the soreness of my muscles, and moved to the window's blindspot. I saw the head peek around the frame again they couldn't see me. The door opened slowly, and once the person stepped in far enough, I put them in a headlock.

"Jesus christ kid. Im a doctor, so let go." The man told me while trying to break the headlock. I saw the badge on his coat and let go of him. He caught his breath before speaking to me.

"That's one hell of a headlock. Now I understand why that kid looked the way he did." He said with a chuckle. "I'm Dr. Shepherd and I was asked to check up on you."

"Check up on me or act like a peeping Tom in the window?" I pointed out.

"Sorry about that. My resident came back with your charts before I came in. Nice disappearing trick. Where'd you get that from?" He joked. I walked back to the bed and sat down. He followed and pulled out his stethoscope.

"Myself." I answered dryly while he checked my heart. "Why are you here and not Bailey?"

"Bailey is dealing with her kid and asked me to check up on you personally. Plus, I'm one out of the few attending on call here." He said while writing down my stats. I looked at his badge and read it.

"You're head of neuro, not cardio. There's something wrong with my heart, not my brain." I said to him and he laughed.

"That is true, but there's side effects to a vital organ, your heart, stopping and restarting. It can cause effects to your brain for not having blood pumping through your body, which also means no oxygen to the brain." He said while he finished up my charts. He flashed a smile and sat next to me. "I know you're being protective of yourself, but you can trust me. I know what I'm about to tell you will bring us much closer."

"What that's your my long lost uncle?" I joked and he laughed.

"No, but I have information that you would consider." He recomposed himself before speaking. "Your father is in this same hospital right now and is talking about hurting you and taking your siblings. I know you're very protective over your siblings that you've taken all that would harm them to the point where your body is fighting to heal itself. Yes, you have a heart condition, and it has gotten worse because of you're father but you also have trouble controlling your emotions or showing them at all. This is where I come into play. I'm here to help."

I listened to what he said, but only one part stuck to me. My father is alive. I shot him, and he survived. No matter the amount of drugs and alcohol he put in his system, he still survives. I need to get rid of him before he does more damage.

"Where is he? What room?" I asked while the anger inside me formed.

"Now I can't te- you just tell me which side of the building. I'll find him myself." I cut him off. I stood up, heading to the door, but he blocked me.

"Look. As much as I would love to see you get back at your father, you have to get better and be ready for anything that might come your way. You can get back at him anytime, but for now, you need to be healthy and be stable for your family." He said while guiding me back to bed. I got back in and he gathered his things. "Bailey will be here in a few hours, so try and get some rest."

I watched him leave the room before letting out a sigh of frustration. I went to the bathroom in my room and saw that Miguel's mother left clothes and some of my essentials. I brushed my teeth and carefully did my skincare before going back to bed.

I bored while waiting for Bailey to come, so I started singing songs and coming up with random lyrics. After a while, I remember my moms lullaby that she sang to the twins and started singing it. I stopped when the door opened.

"I haven't heard that one in a while. Your mother used to sing that to the kids who fought their sleep." Aunt Bailey said while coming over to me with her intern. "You missing her?"

"Kinda. I was just waiting on you since your prince charming looking friend woke me up early." I told her and she laughed.

"Dr. Shepherd was just doing his job. How are you feeling?" She asked me while changing the dressing on my stitches.

"Better. Just a little sore when I woke up, but other than that, I'm good." I told her and she scoffed.

"Good to me is the bare minimum. If you're healthy enough to be cleared, then you need to be fantastic or excellent." She said while putting the last piece of tape on the wrap.

"Um Dr. Bailey, it does say that Y/n is cleared to be released." Her intern said. Bailey turned to her with a cold face, telling her to keep her mouth shut. "Sorry."

"See, Aunty. I'm fantastic. Even your interns can see that." I said to her and rolled her eyes.

"Your life and the twins' lives are a promise I made to your mother to keep yall alive and well. But if you're here and hurt, then there will be no one to raise the twins as wonderful as your mom raised you. And I don't want that for them. I'm gonna clear you, but you have to make sure you don't come back here. Promise me." She held out her pinky, and I wrapped mine around hers. "Good. Also, you're going to therapy."

"Wait, what? You know I hate that place." I whined out and she laughed.

"You did it to yourself since you want to rage out and almost kill people. You go home, maybe talk to your little girlfriend, and next week is therapy." She said while heading for the door.

"She's not my girlfriend." I yelled out while she left laughing at her own smart remark. I got my things together and facetimed Miguel.

"El Diablo is free!" He yelled through the phone. I shook my head and saw he was in the lunch room at school.

"Hey, that name is only is only used in the ring. How much longer until you skip the rest of class?" I asked, knowing him.

"5 minutes. I've invited a guest too." He said, turning his phone to Jenna. She was in the middle of biting her sandwich, causing me to laugh. She realized that he faced the phone to her, and she quickly covered her mouth a waved with a faint blush.

"Damn, is it that good?" I said jokingly and she flipped me off. Miguel turned the phone back to him and we spoke until the bell rang to go to the next class. He turned the camera so both him and Jenna waved goodbye before driving over here.

After a few minutes, I started putting my things together and scrolled through social media. The door was pushed open by no other than Miguel.

"Grab your shit and let's go. I'm craving ice cream and we're all going." He said as he came towards me. I gave him a side eye for coming in the way he did and rolled his eyes. "Vamos. Si o no helado?"

"Yes, I want ice cream. You disturbed the peace of the room by being loud." I said while putting my things in a bag. He grabbed my bag when I was finished and I texted Aunt Bailey that I was going. We got to his car headed off to the ice parlor. Today, I'm keeping my piece, but who knows what tomorrow could hold.
