It was midnight when you felt it, getting up to get a glass of water quickly became trying not to slip on the fluid that had just dropped from between your legs. You had another week before your expected due date, so to say this was a surprise was a bit of an understatement. You waddled your way back to your bedroom, trying to gently wake your passed out boyfriend, but to no avail. You decided to just wake him up the best way you knew how, so you pulled the pillow out from under his head and smacked him with it, earning a groan from him as he turned to face you.
"What's wrong, why did you smack me with my pillow?" He asked, prying his eyes open.
"My water broke." You said plainly, turning to grab your go bag and pull on some pants.
"Are you sure you didn't just piss yourself?" He joked, causing you to turn and give him a dirty look as a contraction hit you like a truck.
"Jesus— this is actually happening— okay." He said, suddenly panicking as he slid out from under the covers, pulling on some clothes and moving you to sit on the bed.
"Stay there, I'll take everything to the car then I'll be back to help you okay?" He said, taking the 'go' bag from your hands and running out of the room.
You pull out your phone, noting the time as you open your contacts and hit find who you're looking for. The dialling tone rings a couple times before a groggy sounding Josh finally picked up.
"Hello?" He asked with a yawn.
"Josh, it's Y/n. My water just broke."
"Holy shit, already?! I thought you had another week before you were due." He said, suddenly much more awake.
"I do, but apparently this baby wants out now."
"Alright, what do you need?" He asked, his voice laced with urgency.
"Well you can meet us at the hospital, I don't know how long this is going to take, but Jake is freaking out even more than I am, so he could probably use you." You said
"Okay, I'll meet you guys there—"
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"Well— whenever I don't have a contraction I'm alright."
"And when you do?"
"It's awful, I am growing very impatient already."
"I'd imagine."
Jake slid back into your bedroom, giving you an odd look when he saw that you were on the phone.
"Letting Josh know what's going on." You explain, putting your hand out for Jake to pull you off of the bed.
Jake pulled you from the bed, taking your phone from your hand and wrapping his arm around you for support as you walked out of the room together.
"It's happening Josh." Jake said, holding your phone with his free hand.
"I've heard, you excited?" Josh asked with a chuckle.
"I uh— yeah— yeah I'm excited." Jake said, looking at you with a loving smile.
"I'll let you go, see you at the hospital." Josh said before hanging up the call.
Jake opened the passengers side door, helping you into the car and buckling you in before closing the door and rushing to the drivers side, sliding into his seat and starting the car, and stepping on the gas.
"Let's not get arrested on the way to the hospital, okay." You say, tapping on his leg.
He looked over, taking in your encouraging look before turning back to the road. It took less time than expected to get to the hospital, though you could credit Jake's heavy foot for the speed in which you arrived. He nearly forgot you in the car, pulling the labor bag out of the back seat and getting out of the car without even looking in your direction.
"Hey Jake, I think you forgot something." You open the car door, yelling after him and catching his attention.
He turned on his heel, cursing to himself and jogging back over and helping you out of the car.
"This is it huh, last little bit of time where it's just you and me." Jake said as you walked towards the entrance.
A contraction hit as you walked through the doors, immediately catching the attention of the nurses.
—
"Alright momma, I just need you to give me one more big push." The doctor said, looking up at you with an encouraging smile.
"You've got this babe. You're doing so good." Jake said, kissing your temple and giving your hand a little squeeze.
After thirteen hours of labor, and little to no sleep between contractions, that last push brought a whole new meaning to your lives. The wailing of your new born child was music to your ears, finally relaxing for the first time since your water broke.
"Congrats you two, you've got a son." The doctor said, turning back to the two of you with your baby.
Jake looked down at you, a smile on his face so wide that you thought it might get stuck like that.
"We have a son!" He said, taking a deep breath before his eyes rolled, and he fell to the ground.
"Holy shit!" You said, looking over the side of your bed.
"It's fine, totally normal for new dads to get overwhelmed." The doctor said, waving a couple nurses to pick him up.
He was out for less than five minutes before he came to, seeing you laying on the bed holding your child. He made his way over, walking like a newborn deer.
"You alright Jake?" You ask, a goofy smile on your face.
"Better than alright, how are you feeling?" He asked, moving some hair out of your face and looking down at your son.
"Hello baby." He said softly, brushing his finger along your baby's little forehead.
"Hello momma." He said, looking up at you and brushing his hand along your jaw.
