"Nathan, did you hear?"
His mother called from the kitchen, Nathan sighed, and stood from the couch in the living room and walked over to the kitchen, a visible frown on his face. Hear what?
"I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but one of your classmates died,"
He blinked in response, before turning around and walking away, going back to his peacful and comfortable spot on the couch.
It was 6 in the morning, on a Friday, 29th of September.
His mother was preparing breakfast, then he'd head to school, he planned to ignore his mother asking him to stay at home for today, that didn't matter all that much to him.
And the death wasn't special news to him, so what if someone died? Why would he care? It was likely someone he didn't like.
Did his mom expect him to react or something.
"He was found earlier today."
His mom spoke as she left the kitchen with a plate of food for Nathan.
"You think they'll have an assembly for him at school?"
Nathan just nodded, indifferent. He took the plate of food and placed it down on the coffee table in front of him.
Then he stood up and went upstairs to his room to fetch his homework, then went back downstairs.
He placed the homework on the coffee table and began doing it while eating. His teachers probably didn't expect him to do it, but it was all fake sympathy. He'd prove them wrong.
"Honey,"
His mom said as she sat down next to him, he inhaled sharply and looked at her, clearly infuriated.
"Is this your way of grieving?"
He wasn't fucking grieving he just needed to do his assignments to get into a good college! Why stop his life just because his family died?
He huffed and shook his head, she was about to say something else but he was already continuing doing his homework, hoping she'd just leave him alone already.
He heard her sigh.
"Have fun at school today."
Fun was not something to be had at school. Not to mention he had P.E today, which he would normally skip but not now, he had to show everyone he was better than them, and even with a dead family he was attending all his classes and still being better than everyone else.

Nathan was riding the bus to school, as always. He was sat in the very front which was always empty, because apparently sitting in the back was considered cool.
What was actually cool was minding your business and not gossiping about useless shit, is how Nathan saw it.
It was a boring, 20 minute ride to school, and as soon as they arrived Nathan waited for everyone else to get off before he, himself, got off.
He struggled to walk as he didn't take his crutch to school today, once again, to show how he was superior.
And he'd be sitting all day anyway.
As he walked slowly towards the school he noticed a teacher approaching him, causing him to sigh deeply, and stare at them.
"There will be an assembly held now, to honor Mr. Mohsen."
Who?
"I take it you two had a friendly academic rivalry, I'm so sorry for all your losses recently Nathan."
Nathan just nodded, before starting to walk away.
Stupid assembly.
He didn't wanna go.
Everyday was just more ridiculous beliefs people had that he of course needed to deal with.
As used to dealing wihh stupidity as he was, it still annoyed him.
