Sandor stared at her in stunned silence. The last two days had been such a whirlwind of emotions that he was still trying to convince himself this was real. That he had actually done it, that he saved her. Well, in truth he'd done nothing, it was all Bronn. He could live a thousand lifetimes and never be able to repay that debt, but it didn't matter because she was here, safe and whole.
'"Sand?" She said curiously cocking her head to the side and smiling.
"Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a marriage traditionally supposed to be proposed by the man?" He finally said.
"Fuck that." She said cheerfully, "Since when have we done anything traditionally? And besides, I've already asked so it's done. Are you going to marry me or not?"
"I don't want you to marry me to try to prove something to some fucking bitches that don't matter." He said running a hand down her shoulder, "I want to marry you when we know it's right."
"You think I'd ask just to make a statement?" She said, "the fact that it will send a nice big fuck you to the Sand Snakes is definitely a perk, but I want to marry you Sandor Clegane because you are my best friend. Because I just spent one week away from you and it became crystal clear within hours that I am so god damned in love with you that I can't think straight if you aren't beside me, and tonight I had to face the very real possibility that I might never see you again. You are the most fucking amazing person I have ever known and the idea of being your wife, of knowing that I am yours forever makes me more fucking excited and honored than I have the words to express. So how about it?
"Of course I'll fucking marry you." He said and he pulled her down on top of him to kiss her.
He knew he could never get tired of this. The feel of her impossibly soft skin, the way her hair fell around her face. The way she would bite his lip as she kissed him making him instantly ready every time. His hand found it's way to her hip as he guided her down on top of him and relished the soft sigh the escaped her lips.
"I love you." He whispered, his lips against her breast bone. He sat up pulling her against him and she wrapped her legs around his waist. She dug her fingers into his hair pulling hard and he growled with pleasure.
"So you want to go get a septon, or should I?" She breathed against his ear.
Sandor stopped and leaned back to look at her.
"What you mean you want to get married now?" He asked incredulously.
"Well...not this very minute..." she said coyly rolling her hips forward, and making him bite his lip at the sensation, "I think we can finish our current activity, and pick more proper attire, but then yes. I want to get married. I don't want to wake up to one more morning that I'm not your wife."
--------
Sandor was walking back up the street towards the inn with a little balding man in plain grey robes following behind them. Tess had directed him to a house three doors down from the inn where she knew a septon resided. She had explained that he was usually drunk and mostly did blessings for new children and performed burial rights, but he was legitimate and could easily perform a marriage. When he walked back into the inn he saw that Sam was in the process of pushing the last of the tables to the side and making space in the center of the room. Tess had asked the three of them Sam, Gilly, and Elle to stand as their witnesses. Nothing says official wedding like having it witnessed by the Grand Maester, Sandor thought to himself.
"They'll be down in a moment." Sam told him, "They got a look in that box you brought and Elle flat out refused to let Tess get married without wearing one of the dresses, and then of course Gilly wanted to do her hair...you know how these things go. Is there anything else you can think of that you need?"
