. . . .

I stare absent-mindedly at my account, the vivid blue of my avatars' eyes glaring back. I'd gotten the game, Three ways survival, as a joke last week- and yet here I was, now genuinely invested and practically drowning in the lore.

I'd struggled at first, having selected the 'assassin' type class upon my initial download, but after making a second account to start over, I'd decided to remain as a magic user. Piggy-backing' off guilds with higher levels than me, trading buffs and heals in exchange for the exp I needed to max out my stats; it was all rather fun, to be honest.

With a steady build of coins, I'd also managed to customize my avatar into something like a better version of myself- close enough that I could see the resemblance, but without my imperfections. He had short, silky black hair and almost white skin in contrast, along with rosy, full lips and a bright sparkle in his eyes. It felt almost... nice to look at. Shame I couldn't make him a little more buff, though- the mages were slim and curvy by default. Curse my inability to fully escape reality; I had been blursed with a full cake, even here. Tsk, tsk. At least I got to tone the arms enough to no-longer look like a twisted lump of clay.

I muster an over-dramatic sigh, now closing the stat screen and entering the main lobby, adjusting the mic hanging from my semi-broken headphones. I was on mute, as usual- but it had become a habit to fiddle with the damn thing nevertheless.

One of the first things I noticed was the presence of a brand new account, loading in for the first time on the slot next to me. It had the 'streamer' icon floating by the username, "Supreme King", subtly announcing that he was live.

'Interesting,' I muse, watching as he- now fully loaded in- started to walk around, inspecting the lobby. It isn't long before he makes his way into the starters' zone, basic sword in hand and leather armour on display. Judging by the quality of his avatar's design, he's already received a custom skin. I conclude it to be the kind that carries on between accounts, most likely from a different game by the same franchise- either that, or he's rich and already decided to buy one.

I activate my 'stealth' skill, now following as he goes around- mostly out of boredom, but also a little curiosity.

He continued to play for about an hour, making rather steady process and finishing the beginners quests almost flawlessly. He reached level five in no time, and I was beginning to consider opening his stream when he stumbled upon a hidden boss.

'Oh shit,' I thought, watching with a wince as his avatar was thrown across the room. The 'giant squid' had been added as a troll from the creator, meant to wipe the floor with new players to give them a 'taste of humble pie", if they leveled up too quickly. It was physically impossible to beat without a third party, and made quick work of him- urging me to step in the moment his hp fell into the red.

[Activating Omniscient readers viewpoint, lvl. 1] !

I quickly spammed the ability of my secondary "guardian" class, covering the streamer in a triple-layered barrier, barely saving his remaining 15 points of health. A spike of electric blue split my screen as I activated my ult, the fluttering of bookmark's pages drowning in the roar of flames now pouring from my staff, engulfing the squid with mana. A large block of his health dissolved within the instant,  the rest slowly draining away as I selected an array of extra spells and hexes. I muttered a few curses under my breath, battering my past self for not investing in any more combat abilities.

The durability of my staff grew dangerously close to the 'broken' status within seconds, but I pushed on, knowing a little too well that this game would send you back to level one if you died before reaching 10. I didn't want this guys' past hour of grinding to go to waste..!

[Activating Sacrifice's Will, Lvl. 1] !

A pair of long, black wings emerged from my cape as a portion of my health vanished, my magic doubling in return. It was a give-and-take skill that I didn't use often, but I figured now was a better time for it than ever. A pair of horns twisted out from under my avatar's bangs, the flames turning red in time with my eyes. The squid screamed, thrashing under the never-ending assault, and, just as my staff splintered and broke into pieces, fell dead. Its hp bar left the screen, and I waited a few moments as everything slowly reverted to normal.

I sighed, shoving the remains of the wand into the depths of my inventory, too ashamed to look at them now.

I then turned towards the streamer, who was now standing in place, sword still in hand. I opened a magic circle with my hands, casting a steady spell to begin his health recovery. I typed into the chat as he slowly slid back into the yellow,

"Hey, are you alright?"

No response.

"That was a pretty close call."

Is this guy afk or what?

He doesn't answer until his health was back to full, and the exp from the boss flooded in, booting him into level seven.

"Yes. Thanks."

I manage to crack a little smile, now stepping back as my own level progresses to 20. "Worth it," I silently muse, now typing once again.

"You need help with anything else, sir?" I put on my usual happy-go-lucky persona, hoping for another excuse to hang around. This guy is bound to obliterate my future boredom, I decide-  and I'm soon thrilled by the addition of a friend request from the man in question.

"Just your hand in companionship."

I smother a laugh, 'and not in marriage?', but accept anyways. "Then I'll see you next time we're both on~  sorry I can't stay much longer"

I decide to cut this gaming session off as cleanly as I can, casting a nervous glance at the time. Dad will be home soon.

"Sure."
