"Think of me as the bad guy," Rohit shouted, "I am the bad guy who has done nothing to deserve you." Anisha was nearly in tears, "But, Rohit, I love you so much."
- "Why? Please don't. I don't deserve a person like you. See yourself. You are multi-talented, you look beautiful, you are caring. In short, you are just perfect. And look at me. I am not even close to that. I can't do anything. I can't socialize. Think about it this way, if you want me to meet your friends someday, what will they think of us? Like there is no way I deserve you. You deserve a lot better."
The scene was simple. Anisha was sitting beside Rohit on the fence. They were looking over the Ganges River as the sun was about to set. Anisha snuggled closer towards Rohit and said, "Both of us know you are terrible at lying. Atleast to me. So, tell me what happened. Why do you want to push me away? Like I know you love me a lot. If you say you don't deserve me, then probably nobody does. You know how much you mean to me."
- "That is exactly where the problem is, Anisha. I mean a lot to you. That is exactly where the freakin problem is. Because being so attached hurts like hell. For me, it is okay. I am okay with getting hurt. But I can't let you get hurt, that to because of me."
- "Who do you think deserves me? Because I don't care who deserves because I need you. And on the other hand, if you think I don't deserve you, you can be honest with that as well."
- "I don't know who the heck deserves you. But atleast someone really better than me. Someone of your type. Someone who makes you happier."
- "See, Rohit, if you need an excuse for moving away from my life, you are free to. But don't say things which is clearly not true."
- "Yes, if you wanna hear that, I want to move away from your life."
- "Then why are you here today? I just called you because we usually spend time here. If I meant nothing to you, why would you pick up my call within one ring and come here within five minutes?"
- "The phone was in my hand and this place is closer to my home, you know that. I don't love you, Anisha. I never did."
- "You mean to say your promises were always fake? Don't lie, Rohit. I know how much you cared for me. I know how much you did for me. If it weren't love, you wouldn't have done anything. I deserve to know what made to take such decision."
- "Believe me, I never loved you. I just did what I did because you were my friend."
- "And for which other friend did you rush at 2 in the night all over the city to find paracetamol tablets coz she just had a mild fever?"
- "Dude, your parents were not at home, and you were alone on that day. I got that medicine because you were sick. Let's not have this conversation, Anisha."
- "I seriously deserve to know."
- "It's nothing. I never loved you. I was fake. And it is over. I am leaving. You want me to drop you home the last time?"
- "No, it's fine. I will book a cab."
Two drops of tears rolled down Anisha's cheeks. Rohit put his hand and his pocket and jumped down from the fence. "Funny right?" Anisha said.
- "What?"
- "Nothing," she tried to smile.
- "Seriously?"
- "Why would you put your hand in the pocket? The same reflex right? To take out the handkerchief and wipe my tears as soon as you saw them. It happens. I respect your decision though," Anisha wiped her tears herself as she took out the phone and booked a cab. Rohit walked away, stood at a distance till her cab arrived. It was hard to not wave her a goodbye.
