The Meeting

We eventually made it to HQ without any other incidents. It was pretty awkward. I have decided that the Universe definitely has something against me. Why else would it put me in close quarters with a man who was my boss—and definitely made by the gods, or chiseled out of stone by an amazing artist—with no chance of acting on my temptations unless I want to lose my job? Fuck you universe. Fuck. You.

I was in the seat right beside Elio, near the head of the long table. There was a woman speaking in front of everyone, going on about ways to make the company more productive and increase revenue. She had a tight black dress on, it was verging on being not work-appropriate. The neckline of it was pretty low cut, but at least left something to the imagination. There was a dark navy blue jacket that covered her shoulders and went down to her mid-back. Her chestnut hair was parted down the left and swooped over to the other side in waves. Damn.

Throughout the entirety of the meeting, it was obvious that she was flirting with Elio. It kind of pissed me off. It shouldn't have, but it did. What was worse is that he didn't seem to care.

I look over at Elio after finishing up the last of the notes.

"Did you get everything," he asks as he stands up from his seat.

"Yes, sir," I confirm with a nod of my head. I stand up, picking up everything I had brought with me.

"Alright, well, then we should be ready to go," he announces and starts walking towards the door out of the meeting room. I follow behind him.

His pace was way faster than my own. Jeez, maybe he really didn't like me. He rounded a corner while I was still three-quarters of the way down the hallway.

"Oh, Mr. Dagon," a feminine voice called out in a drawn-out tone. She was on the other side of the wall. "I need to talk with you."

I finally made it around the corner and saw Elio standing in front of that woman who led the meeting. She seemed a bit unnaturally close to him.

"Maybe we could do lunch," she continues, then her eyes lock onto me as I make my way beside him. He glances at me, then shifts his attention back to her.

"I'm afraid I can't do lunch right now. We have to get back to the office," Elio says with that monotone voice of his, though it seemed kind of harsher than normal.

"If it's about your assistant, just have her take the company's car back and I'll give you a ride back to the office after lunch," her smile told me that her intentions were anything but pure.

"Ms. Hansley, please head back to the car without me. I will meet you there momentarily."

I give the two of them a brief look, then just nod and head out towards the parking garage. It was a lot bigger than the one back at the office. Luckily, Elio had a reserved parking spot near the exit. I leaned against the concrete wall near the car as I wait for him.

About ten to twenty minutes passed, and he still wasn't back. I was about to go look for him, but before I even had the chance to move, he was walking out the door and towards me and the car. His hair seemed messier than the last time I saw him. His tie wasn't as tight, and his eyes weren't as narrow.

"Sorry, that took longer than I expected," he apologized, slicked his hair back into place, and opened the door for me. I get in, having a sneaking suspicion of what had just happened.

The door closed once I was in, then Elio made his way around the car and got in on his side. My only thought was "why couldn't that girl be me?". Wait... I do not need to be thinking about my boss like that. This could've also been a big misunderstanding.

He started the car and was quick to leave. The radio started up once the car was on. Thank God.
