PARK HA-EUN STROLLED the marketplace of their town, beaming at every trinket that interested her eyes, and passing her greetings to those she'd known since she was a little girl. one may think that she was like a sole flower in a field full of weeds, for her smile brought light to their town, the one that they needed in times where war and rebellion looms in the corner.

the bustling of the folks in the marketplace suddenly stopped when the sounds of metal against metal sounded throughout the place as soldiers walked through, their leader leading the way, before stopping in front of ha-eun who stood with doe eyes and a grin on her face, peering up at her older brother.

"how have you been, ha-eun?" the leader, her older brother, joong-gil questioned as the rest of the soldiers dispersed, returning to the comfort of their homes wherein their wives and family would welcome them with an embrace and tears of joy in their eyes.

"i'm all right, but i've missed you. how are you?" ha-eun questioned back, frowning as she noticed the small cuts and bruises that littered his skin.

"hey, don't worry about me. these are so much smaller compared to what happened to our enemies." joong-gil answered, noticing the worry on ha-eun's face as her eyes scanned his body for wounds and bruises. "let's go home, mother has heard of my arrival by now. i'll tell you of my ventures later."

the two siblings walked hand in hand towards their home, smiling as they finally reunited after being apart from each other for a significant amount of time.

as soon as they reached their yard, their mother came running towards them, embracing both her children with a large smile on her face. "you're back, joong-gil. i can't express my happiness in words to see you return safe and sound." their mother beamed pulling away to analyze her son before pulling the two into another embrace after seeing the smile and happiness her children adorned on their faces.

"come, i've prepared your favorite dish as soon as the news of your return reached me." their mother said, ushering them to the table as they replenished and joong-gil talked of his experiences out in the field.

HA-EUN AND JOONG-GIL walked toward the slopes of the mountain, their bow and quiver filled with arrows slumped on their back as ha-eun told her older brother of how her previous trainings on handling her bow and arrows had gone by.

but as the two neared their usual spot wherein they'd hung up their targets, the sound of leaves scrunching underneath someone's feet sounded throughout the trees, prompting the siblings to draw their bows and arrows, searching for the source of the sound, but instead of seeing a person, a doe graced their sight in the distance.

ha-eun quickly slung her bow back to her shoulders as she silently neared the doe, cautious in her step so as to not scare the doe off, but when she was only a few meters away from the creature, a sudden whisp sounded in the air as an arrow hit its neck, killing the doe in one hit. ha-eun quickly crouched in surprise, meanwhile, joong-gil ran to her side, shielding her as he drew his own bow.

"who's there? show yourself." joong-gil demanded, anger seeping through his voice as more sounds of leaves scrunching were heard from the distance and a man suddenly appeared, clad in training robes. "i said who are you? do you have a death wish?"

as soon as ha-eun peered up on her older brother's shoulder and recognized the man, she quickly lowered her brother's bow, standing up from her crouched position as she spoke, "it's okay, i know him. he helps me train whenever you're away on your duties..." ha-eun trailed off, walking towards the man as joong-gil stared at the scene, puzzled.

"i'm sorry. my older brother was only being cautious, it will not happen again." ha-eun bowed in apology as the man smiled softly before nodding.

"i'll be leaving now. i apologize for causing a fright, you can keep the doe as a sign of my goodwill." the man said before secretly passing a small letter to ha-eun as they both gazed into each other's eyes, but their actions did not escape joong-gil's observing eyes who saw the all too familiar look on the man's face before he left, leaving ha-eun standing alone in the middle of the forest.

"well, that was that." ha-eun exclaimed, quick to conceal the smile on her face as she stashed the letter in her pockets and turned back around to face her older brother. "come on now! you still need to teach me your tips and tricks."

joong-gil watched as her little sister walked towards their usual spot with a skip on her step, his mind occupied as he wondered about the content of the letter that the man secretly passed to ha-eun and the loving gaze he had as he looked at her.
