"So..... that's your answer, huh?" Koenma said, staring at Tetsuya's figure with the regal elegance of a royal.
"Yes."
"Well, I guess there is only one thing left." Koenma uttered, with the decorations from before reappearing. George and Surime both sounded off their party horns and merry music went off. "It's time to celebrate!"
George went to bring a cake that said Welcome to the team, Hoshi in white frosting over an image of Koenma's face smiling. Everybody was having a wonderful time eating cake, but something was bothering Tetsuya as he stuffed his face.
"So what is the case about anyways?" He said with cake muffling his voice. Koenma, who was previously in a good mood turned serious to the question.
"Yes, of course. I believe we should discuss the case in depth. George, clean up this mess and go bring the dishes back." A sad ogre grumbled as he cleaned up the place. After he left, Koenma began to explain.
"Lately, for the last couple of weeks or so, weird dimensional tears have been appearing within Spirit World. In the beginning they were only a few and they disappeared after a hour, but now they are more frequents and sustaining for longer times. If that wasn't strange enough, these larger tears are spewing out an ominous energy that is making inhabitants close to them go crazy. If this event continues, this will affect all the worlds. I have already sent my Spirit Defense Force to take care of the more immediate problems, but still now we haven't found the source yet. That is where you come in!" Koenma fired a finger gun at Tetsuya.
"This case would be to find the source of these tears, you won't need to do anything other than locating its source. Once you find it, Surime will contact the SDF to seal the issue. Sounds pretty easy, right?" Koenma asked.
It doesn't sound too hard. Tetsuya thought as he asked "Do you have an idea where it is, or a rough estimate?"
"Yes, according to the reports on the tears, we found a pattern which we could triangulate to the 6th realm region of spirit world, The Realm of Flames. While I would like to send you there myself, I need you to be inconspicuous when doing this. The public doesn't know what is happening and if they catch wind, the whole of Spirit World will be in a uproar! That is why Surime will be going with you."
Surime was nodding her head before she stopped and shouted "WHAT! I just want to be a reaper, not going on a dangerous journey Mr. Koenma! No offense." she apologized to Tetsuya, who she did care about.
"No problem."
"Now Surime, while I understand your apperhension, Tetsuya requires a guide and handler for this job. Your teacher also was in a similar position as you are right now, with the previous spirit detective. Also... this matter has to be accomplished quickly if we want to harmonized Tetsuya's soul with his body. He will have only a month's time to find the source, but if there are no interruptions or delays, making it to the Realm of Flames should only take a week or two so there should be plenty of time."
