"I'm looking at it right now, Mom." Rielle said over the phone, pulling up the case facts on her laptop. "What do you need to know?"
"I need to know what Brandon told me and compare it to what he told authorities the day of the incident." Erica explained, strutting down the long hallway of the building where the hearing was held. "Something isn't adding up."
"On the day of the incident he told authorities that..." She trailed off, reading over the statement. "Dropped the friend off and picked him up. Bullets were fired. They left."
"And he told me that same thing?"
Rielle fingers moved swiftly across the keyboard, reading quickly. "Same exact thing. Cameras back up his account to the story as well."
"This would be easier had he went to the authorities right after but he didn't." Erica explained. "You know?"
"That's true but he's a young man who was scared." Rielle defended him, glancing over more paperwork. "They had been his friends for forever so he also probably didn't want to tell on them."
"Still not smart." Erica pushed back. "What do we have on this other kid? The Bradley kid?"
"Bradley. Bradley..." Rielle mumbled to herself, scanning through the digital case file. "Jaden Bradley was said to be at the scene of the crime, as well. Teammate of Miller's. His fingerprints were not found on the gun. He was not kicked off the team and neither was Miller."
"Thanks, sweetie."
"Yup." Rielle hung up the phone, leaving her laptop open incase her Mom needed her again.
"You should've been a lawyer." Cyn said, sitting in Rielle's bed. "You're that good at working as Mom's Data Analyst and you wanna be a nurse?"
"Shush." Rielle playfully hushed her, twirling in the swivel chair at her desk. "I like nursing."
Her Mom called again and she turned back towards the desk, answering quickly and placing it on speaker. KaCynthia got up and stood behind Rielle to watch her in action.
"I'm here." Rielle said, drumming her fingers against the desk, ready to work fast.
"There's a sealed file in the documents I emailed over to you this morning, I need you to open them." Erica explained. "They might have something that put us a step behind."
"Oh, man." Rielle switched tabs to her email, opening the file her mother had instructed her not open unless she absolutely needed to. "There's a pass code on the file."
"042609." Erica said, tapping her foot. "Are you in?"
She waited anxiously and then when the file opened, Rielle nodded. "I'm in. Talk to me."
"Brandon told me that he didn't know what the weapon was going to be used for, right?" Erica asked for confirmation. "He was just taking it to him because he asked for it?"
