ACT I — CHAPTER V
Tʀᴜʟʏ Fʀɪᴇɴᴅs

⊱ ────── 𖥔 ✶ 𖥔 ────── ⊰

Dear Quinn,

Happy Halloween! I can't believe that it's already been two months since you left. Your mum and I are counting down the days until you come home and see us.

We hope that you enjoy the day and enjoy all of the pumpkin-flavored treats! I also attached some more lemon drops for you.

Write back soon,
Mary

Quinn smiled, putting the package of lemon drops in her pocket.

Just like Mary, Quinn also couldn't believe that it had been two months since she left home. She could never have imagined the life she had. Some days she spent with the Train Gang, walking around the grounds and going down to the Black Lake. Others she would spend with Hermione, studying in the library or eating together in the Great Hall.

She would even sometimes go with Ron down to the Quidditch Pitch to watch the Gryffindor team, specifically Harry, practice. She was even able to convince Ron to let her bring Kevin, who was practically jumping in anticipation for the first match.

Her classes were getting easier, too. They were still incredibly hard, but now that she had the basics down, it was slightly better. Except for Potions, which had always been easy for her. Quinn loved to watch Professor Snape try to contain his anger every time she and Harry perfectly brewed a potion.

When Quinn woke up on Halloween morning, the whole castle smelled like pumpkin, and she knew that it was going to be a good day. She was disappointed to see that nothing at breakfast was pumpkin flavored, but it just made her even more excited for the Halloween feast.

The day got even better when Professor Flitwick announced in Charms that he thought they were ready to start making objects fly, something everyone had been looking forward to since he'd made Neville's toad zoom around the classroom.

Professor Flitwick put the class into pairs to practice. Quinn had been paired with Morag, but she wished that she had been paired with Hermione, who was currently paired with Ron. Hermione had taken a vow of silence when it came to Harry and Ron since the night of the third-floor corridor, and Quinn thought it was a shame that she was going to have to break it after so long.

Hermione was visibly angry about the pairing. Not even Ron seemed as angry as her.

"Now, don't forget that nice wrist movement we've been practicing!" Professor Flitwick squeaked, perched atop his pile of books, "Swish and flick, remember, swish and flick. And saying the magic words properly is very important, too — never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said 's' instead of 'f' and found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest."

As much as they swished and flicked, the feather that lay in front of Quinn and Morag did not move — another reason why Quinn wished she was paired with Hermione. She loved Morag, truly, but Hermione was a better student than anyone, and she could've given the Fenwick girl some pointers.

It seemed everyone else was in the same boat as them. No one was able to get the feather to move, although Seamus Finnigan had managed to set his on fire. Quinn was tempted to ask Hermione if she was doing something wrong even though they weren't partners, but she was too busy reprimanding Ron.

"You're saying it wrong," Hermione snapped, "It's Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa, not Levio-sa. Make the 'gar' nice and long, as well."

"You do it then, if you're so clever," Ron snarled.
