The rain was coming down hard and fast. I'd been upset with myself for not checking the forecast beforehand and being so unprepared for this. Trying to find shortcuts and quick routes home, I raced around the city. My vision was altered due to the heavy rain and placing a hand up above my brow bone wasn't helpful either, yet I still continued to do it. Trying to somehow keep my eyesight clear.
I turned down an alley, 'This is it! Not far from home now,' I thought. Just as I believed I was in the clear, it hit me like a brick wall. He hit me like a brick wall. The breath was knocked out of me and down I went hitting the flooded ground. Completely soaked I do my best to look in the direction of my crash. Working hard against the rain to see what I hit, who I hit. Towering over me, unapologetically, was a golden eyed devil. I was caught in a trance for a moment by his looks. I waited for an outreached hand to help me up or a sigh of relief that I was okay, but nothing came. He just stared.
It wasn't until the person with him moved that I realized we weren't alone. A shorter guy, with glasses and tan skin. He upturned his nose as he adjusted himself from behind the tall devil to catch a glance at me. He let out a tsk and then rolled his eyes.
'What the hell!' I thought. Finally gaining the energy to get myself up out of this puddle I'd started to submerge deeper into. Taking my sweater off, I rung it out as the words slipped from my mouth, "You pricks got in my way. Least you can do is apologize."The tall one's face changed. A smirk escaped his stoic features. Without another second passing and in the blink of an eye his hand was around my throat and his face was in mine, so close I could reach my lips out and touch his if I decided to. From his mouth escaped a deep voice that still rings in my ears and my body, "Do you really want to test me?"
I tried to wiggle out from his grasp but he tightened his grip and I felt the air leave me quickly. I didn't think after that, I just reacted and drove my knee as far into his gut as possible. He let out a slight cough releasing air and moved just a bit in response to my knee. His gaze leaving mine for a moment but still keeping his grasp on my neck. He looked back at me, our eyes locked. I felt a shock come over him.
From behind him a voice, "Hanma, stop wasting time."
His name.
Hanma.
His name, I'll never forget.
He brought his mouth down next to my ear and whispered to me. What he said froze me even after he released my neck and walked away out of sight.
