So anyway the other day I noticed I knew a fair few facts, nothing inparticular, random stuff I'd hardly use in real life but interesting all the same. So I decided to store them up here where ye guys can read it and come away feeling a little wise.
1. Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were born on the exact same day of the exact same year.
2. William Shakespeare was inbred, his parents were first cousins as both his grandmothers were sisters.
3. A mixture of fog and smoke is called "smog", but more interesting is a mixture of fog and volcanic ash is called "vog".
4. Hercule Poirot was the first fictional character to recieve an obituary in the New York Times. The article appeared on the front page August 6, 1975. The headline read: "Hercule Poirot Is Dead; Famed Belgian Detective; Hercule Poirot, the Detective, Dies".
5. A baby puffin is called a puffling.
6. In 2010, the Bible was the most shoplifed book in Norway.
7. In the Sherlock Holmes books, Watson ‘ejaculates’ twice as often as Sherlock Holmes in Conan Doyle’s stories. There are 23 ejaculations in total, with 11 belonging to Watson. On one occasion, Holmes refers to Watson’s ‘ejaculations of wonder’ being invaluable; on another, Watson ejaculates ‘from his very heart’ in the direction of his fiancée. Holmes is only responsible for six ejaculations. I should state here and now that the ejaculations referred to are actually "expressions of surprise".
8. A group of unicorns are called a "blessing".
9. A male ferret is known as a "hob", while a female ferret is called a "jill".
10. St. Vitus is the patron saint of oversleeping.
Anyway that's 10, hopefully that'll wet your appetite and thirst for knowledge and you'll return very soon. :)
