Your eyelids weigh heavy as your teacher's voice drowns to a blur; just as you predicted, you didn't get nearly enough sleep last night after your date with Oikawa. Having made it back home late, and still high on your reckless emotions as you lay staring at your bedroom ceiling, you played it over and over in your head: The starry sky, the warmth of his skin, the passion of his kiss, even the way he said goodnight. All of it, and as many times as it took till you were no longer dizzy with a smile.
"Hey, Y/N. You good?" Hana whispers from beside you, carelessly nudging you with her pen that leaves an ink dot on your cheek.
"Hm?" You snap back awake. "oh, yeah...just tired. I'm fine."
This is the third time someone's glimpsed at you with concern and pried for an "I'm fine". And for the third time, the kindling guilt thrives thanks to your upheld secrecy.
"Okay, if you're sure..." she says doubtfully, resuming her note-taking.
Sighing tiredly under your breath, you pick up your pen in hopes of refocusing your attention on the front of the class. But the hour remains long and draining as you strain and keep your eyes pried open.
When the school bell eventually chimes, you slug your way out of the class and fall into the lunch-rush crowd, ambling behind Hana as she marches determinedly towards the cafeteria as though the food might escape her.
You are quick to notice Emi isn't in the cafeteria again today, an increasingly common sight as of recently, and for reasons unknown to you. In fact, you haven't seen much of her since your sleepover last week. You make a note to try and call her tonight. Hana, on the other hand, walks with you to the table, nattering about her next basketball practice match. You can tell she enjoys being captain from how passionate she talks about the sport; it's energising just to listen to her. Unfortunately not energizing enough to keep you charged for the remainder of the day.
Hana swaps both of your juices like usual and halves her chocolate bar to share as you both take a seat across from one another. "Oh hey, remember that 'guy' you mentioned a week ago." She throws into the conversation immediately.
Your eyes flicker up from your lunch with a weariness. "Yes. And with immense regret..." You cringe at the memory of your tipsy confession. "Thanks for the reminder..."
"Sorry," she chuckles. "I was just wondering if you were...open?"
"Open?" you raise a brow humoursly. "For what, business?"
"Funny." she purses. "I mean open to dating." You watch as she places down her utensils— oh no, she's getting serious. "Like are you with the guy, or is it a crush? Do you wanna get over it or—"
"Hana, what did you do?" you interject, your sense of suspicion building with every question she bombards you with.
She laughs nervously. "Why'd you assume I've done something..."
"You really want me to go there?"
She sighs. "Okay, so there's this guy—"
"And I've heard enough." You focus back on your food, finally taking a bite.
"Oh come on, he's cute, smart, really good at basketball, and he's super into you—"
"How do you know that?" you say with a mouthful. "Oh, and I'm not interested."
"Because he's seen you around with me. And..." She averts from your gaze. "I may have talked you up a bit—"
"Hana!" You whisper yell, scouling across at her for her bold incursion. Of course, she did.
