Molly and Arthur walked silently along the dark corridors back to the common room. They waited at every corner to listen if there was someone. Once they had to make a quick dash into a dark alcove to avoid Filch who strolled through the corridor with Mrs Norris tailing him. When he turned around the next corner they took a deep relieved breath and looked at each other. They giggled very silently and went on. Most of the way they stayed silent as to not alert anyone and not to wake the portraits on thier way. When they came along a window that showed the moonlit lake they stopped.
„Isn't it a beautiful night?", Molly breathed silently and looked up into Arthurs eyes. He nodded. „Yes. It is. Especially because you are here." His eyes widened. It seemed that he spoke without thought and just what came to his mind. He blushed and Molly giggled. He was just so cute. And he really loved her. She could see that. He might be embarrassed about what he said, but he did mean it. It was not some pick up line he used to get her to make out with him. He just thought that with her the night was more beautiful.
Arthur took a deep breath and the blush slowly mellowed down. He turned to face her and cupped her cheek. „It might be bautiful out there", he said ernestly to her, „but not half as beautiful as you." Molly's eyes widened. She had not expected for him to say something like that. Slowly he leaned down looking into her eyes for permission. She gave the slightest nod before his lips met hers.
It was the sweetest kiss in the moonlight. Molly closed her eyes and leaned into Arthur. ‚I really do love him', she thought. After a few seconds they split apart and Arthur slowly opened his eyes. He hadn't even realised he had closed them. His thumb glid over her cheek. „We really need to get back to the common room", he said sadly. „If we get caught detention will be the least of our worries." She smiled sadly. He was right. If her family knew she was sneaking around the castle after curfew to snog Arthur Weasley she would never see him again. And she would not have that. She had decided she would marry this man and if she wanted that to happen her family needed to believe that he was a good man. Sneaking around after curfew was not what they would see as good. Especially since they wouldn't approve of him to begin with.
They started walking in the direction of the common room. But before they reached the stairs they could hear footsteps. Molly looked wide eyed at Arthur. He looked frantically around, searching for a hiding spot. But they were at a part of the castle without dark alocoves they could hide in. Also there were no armours they could hide behind and he didn't know as many secrtet passages as her brothers.
The footsteps grew louder. But they sounded small. Maybe it was another student. But then Mrs Norris came around the corner. With panic in their eyes Arthur and Molly looked at each other before they ran. They turned around and took off in the direction of the stairs praying they would reach safety before Filch would catch them and give them detention. They made it up the first flight of stairs when they heared the heavier sounding footsteps of the feared caretaker. It was just another flight of stairs and down the corridor. They ran as fast as they could.
They could already see the Fat Lady. When they reached her she smiled at them conspiratorial. "Password?", she asked. "Caroling house elves", Arthur answered. They waited for the portrait to open before Filch could see them but suddenly the footsteps halted. "What are you chasing this fine evening, Mr Filch?", they heard the Fat Friar asking. In that moment the Fat Lady swung forward to let them enter. They quickly entered, looked at each other and burst out laughing. "That was a nice save from the Fat Friar", Arthur said. "I didn't expect him to come to our rescue." "Me neither. But we should thank when we next see him. This could have ended in a disaster." "It could've. But it didn't."
They smiled before they bid each other good night. A wonderful evening ending with relief that it did not end in a disaster.
