I woke up early on the most beautiful September morning. The sun was just rising, and the room was illuminated by a soft orange light. I stretched, a small yawn crept out of my mouth, and I rubbed the tiredness out of my eyes before sitting up and looking around the room. Penelope was still snoring in the other bed, tucked well under the covers. I could hear the sound of birds outside singing a lively morning greeting and I could feel a light breeze coming in through the open window.
Today was my first day in my new school uniform and I was eager to see how I would look in it. I got up and walked over to my suitcase, which was placed next to the bed. I opened it and started pulling out the clothes. First, I found my skirt, which was made of a black, soft wool and fell just to my knees. Then I found my shirt, which was white and shone in the morning sun. I pulled my arms through the sleeves and began to button the buttons while looking at myself in the mirror, I always buttoned from the bottom to the top, so I would not button the shirt uneven. I buttoned the collar of the shirt and put on my tie with yellow and black stripes. I had never been a big fan of uniforms, but there was something special about being in uniform with the other students. I was part of a larger group and could see how the uniform signalled a sense of order and community in the school. I put on my grey sweater, which had a big, embroidered H on the chest, and sat down to put on my socks. They were black and had a small yellow stripe on the top that matched the sweater. Finally, I found my black shoes and put them on. When I finished getting dressed, I looked in the mirror once again and put my big wavy hair up in a loose ponytail.
Penelope and I stepped out of our room in the Hufflepuff dormitory and made our way down the winding stairs to the common room. We were meeting up with Justin and Ernie, who were also on their way to Herbology class. I could feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness running through my body, as it was my first Herbology class at Hogwarts and my first real school day here.
When we reached the common room, Justin and Ernie were already there waiting for us. We all greeted each other, and I could feel the warmth and friendly atmosphere as we talked and got to know each other better as we walked toward the greenhouses. Along the way, I couldn't help but notice the beautiful surroundings of the school. We passed the tall towers and old stone buildings surrounded by lush greenery. The sun was shining in the sky and the wind was gentle as we walked across the courtyard. The Herbology greenhouses were next to the large lake. Our Herbology teacher, Professor Sprout, was waiting for us at the entrance. She greeted her students kindly and welcomed me to Hogwarts. We entered the greenhouse and were greeted by the overwhelming smell of flowers and plants. I was impressed by how large and well-kept the greenhouse was. There were plants of all colours and sizes, and I could feel my curiosity and excitement growing.
"Hello, students. I assume you have all brought your gloves and scissors? Today you are going to meet a small, inconspicuous flower with surprisingly powerful effects. It may not look like much, the plant is known as Moly, which most of you may remember from your first year. Does anyone remember anything about the plant from the first year?"
I quickly raised my hand and a big smile appeared on my face.
"Yes, Mrs. Vincent?"
"Moly is a powerful plant that can be eaten to counteract spells. It is a black stem plant with white flowers that are used in the brewing of the Wiggenweld elixir, among other things".
"Correct. Very good, Mrs. Vincent. 20 points for Hufflepuff," Professor Sprout said.
