QITIAN

On an assigned date and time Qitian reached the Beijing Central Hospital to the gynaecology department to meet Dr. Li Hua. This is going to be his second checkup after he found out about his pregnancy.

So when he reached the room he was nervous. Also excited to know about the baby.

He entered a white door escorted by a nurse and sat on the chair pointed out by the nurse.

"You can sit here and wait a minute. Dr. Li will be back in a moment."

Then the nurse left, leaving him to wait alone. A second later a click on the door sounded and in came a short lady probably in her late fifties.

"Hello. Mr. Yan Qitian?"

Qitian looked at her and felt a wave of warm emotions rush through him. The lady has a small smile plastered on her lips, making people feel welcomed and comfortable. She was wearing a green dress with a white medical overcoat on top. Her hair was made in a loose bun and a wooden chopstick stuck to it to keep the bun in place.

Qitian realised it was a chopstick because of the handle. Though it was a bit unusual but still somehow it didn't look weird on her. She gave off a motherly comfort to look at.

"Yes. Hello!"

"This child!" She sat on her designated revolving chair opposite Qitian and her smile got bigger. "Are you nervous?"

Qitian nods. He didn't want to lie either.

"Aye, son. Don't be. But I guess it's normal. First child?"

She made small talk in an attempt to make Qitian open up a bit. Earning a nod as an answer.

"Not much of a talker I see. Dr. Lambert told me about your condition. And you can rest assured I have experience in this. So you don't have to worry."

Finally Qitian felt safe enough to show a smile. And his smile took her by surprise.

"Well we'll first go through with your symptoms. And then we'll check your medicines. There probably will be the case of unavailability because your medicines are prescribed in the US. But we'll see what we can do."

She whips out a clipboard probably with some questionaire. Then bringing out her professionalism she started questioning him.

"How is your morning sickness?"

"It's still there but not frequent."

Dr. Li jotted down his answers on the papers.

"How about, any abdominal pain?"

As she looked at him Qitian felt a bit uncomfortable to reveal. "Actually there was some dull pain before. But this Friday I ran a little. And felt sharp pain for a few minutes."

She frowned, realising Qitian didn't reveal the whole cause. But as the root cause was running, she didn't push further. "Okay. It may be due to your ligaments stretching and the exercise just triggered your muscles a bit. If the pain comes back later without no reason we can do a further checkup."

Then she jotted it down as special circumstances. "Any other symptoms that you can remember?"

Qitian thought a bit, but found none. Then as if thinking back and remembering he added.

"Actually, I had a nosebleed the other day."

"Are you stressed? Garry did inform me that you showed mild depression symptoms. And I prefer talking to you directly. Would you like me to refer you to a specialist?"

Qitian didn't nod. He didn't want to talk to a specialist yet. Though he knew that having pre-natal depression can grow bigger and hurt the baby. Still he wanted to put it off for the next appointment.
