Lando's POV
my birthday party was supposed to be held tonight. I had planned everything perfectly, but no one could have come because they were busy or too far away from me. it is true. now i'm in new york, because i have a break from the formula 1 season, but many people can't reach me until here.the only person who would come to see me is y/n. she is really special to me. she is the first girl i fell in love with. she doesn't know... or rather... no one knows but me. we've known each other for a really long time, we went to middle school together.
the first time I saw her was the first day of middle school, in front of the gate, her in pink nikes and glitter jacket. we grew up together, and i'm so grateful for that. all the moments spent with her made me realize that she is the woman for me.
she doesn't know that I have this feeling for her, and it's for the best. I don't think she deserves someone like me at all. I'm never at home because of my job, and I know how much she loves spending her days cuddling on the sofa or walking together. I'm not as smart as her, I left school to be a driver...
but... not telling her that I love her made me suffer a lot. she had two boyfriends from sixth grade to now, 23 years old. now she's still together with the last one, for 4 months now.
I had set the table for the two of us, we would have club sandwiches, our fav meal, and I had decorated the table with roses, simple but beautiful like her.
while I was arranging the last petals on the table, someone knocked on the door.
I went to open it and there she was... with her sweetest smile.
"happy birthday lando!" she said before throwing herself into my arms. I returned the hug, squeezing her tightly against me. I haven't felt the warmth of her body on mine for a long time. I had missed her. "thanks," I replied with a chuckle. "here, this is for you. I really hope you like it." she said handing me a small packet, wrapped in orange and silver. I smiled at her and made her sit at the table.
we talked about this and that, about us and about the others. "I'm going to get the dessert, wait for me here." I told her as I stood up. she smiled back. I brought two slices of chocolate to the table, with a candle on my slice. "lando..." she whimpered. "our chocolate cake" she added. I nodded and smiled. "stop here, I'll take a picture of you. smile."
I looked at her with pure adoration. I know, it's dangerous, but I can only look at her with eyes full of love and adoration towards her.
"now close your eyes and make a wish by blowing out the candle" she said.
I looked at her one last time and then closed my eyes.
I blew out the candle and obviously made the wish I've been wanting for years... her."don't open your eyes yet." she imposed on me. "oh... ok. something bad?" I asked.
"no. it's ok. you're not looking, are you?" she asked me.
"no, but can I open my eyes now?" I asked.
"no not yet." "when can I open them?" I asked impatiently. i was really curious.I felt two hands take my face, two cold hands that were warmed by my hot and red cheeks, until...
the feeling of two lips resting on mine, I've been dreaming about for so long.
the kiss ended, unfortunately.
we were both silent, so I decided to take off the blindfold.
I looked her straight in the eyes. those eyes I was madly in love with. but this sweet moment was interrupted by a thought of mine.
"what's steve going to say about this? I don't want your relationship to end because of me" I asked. my thoughts went to her boyfriend. the man I most envy.
"steve is gone. he left me a month ago. he said he didn't love me anymore." she answered, hinting at a smile.
I was speechless with amazement. how could a man stop loving a perfect woman like her?
"I am sorry." I stammered. "no lando, i'm sorry. i'm sorry i only realized a short time ago that you were the right person for me from the first moment. i'm sorry i never had the courage to tell you, i'm sorry i never had the courage to show you my love." she apologized, lowering her gaze.
I stood up and approached her, lifted her face with my hand and kissed her again, more passionately than before.
these words of hers have been a relief to my heart and soul.
she wrapped her arms around my neck, standing up. I lifted her up and picked her up, to carry her into the living room.
we both leaned back on the couch. the kiss ended and we remained looking into each other's eyes, embracing each other, tighter than ever.
"this is the best gift you could ever give me." I said. "I've loved you forever." I added.
