Alright, first I want to apologize to everyone that came here from my RWBY fanfic. I might pick it up again but the writing was so bad in that one I almost died from crouching while reading it. This is something I wanted to do for a long time but never knew where to start but now I know. I hope you all are going to enjoy this new work of mine.

In the year 2138 AD there was a term: DMMO-RPG.

That word was an acronym for "Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game".

These games were played by connecting a dedicated console to the brain via a neuronal nano-interface - an intracerebral nanocomputer network, created from the fusion of cyber- and nanotechnology.

These were games that allowed one to enter a virtual world and experience it as though it were real life.

And among the myriad DMMO-RPGs that thronged the market, one of them stood head and shoulders above the others:

YGGDRASIL.

This game had been painstakingly developed and released twelve years ago, in 2126.

Compared to other DMMO-RPGs of the time, YGGDRASIL's selling point was "player freedom".

It had over two thousand basic and advanced job classes.

Every class had a maximum of fifteen levels, and so in order to reach the overall level cap of one hundred, one would need to take at least seven different classes. However, players could take as many classes as they wanted as long as they met each class's prerequisites. A player could even take a hundred classes at level one each, although that was very inefficient. As such, in this system, it was virtually impossible to make identical characters unless one was deliberately trying to do so.

In addition, one could use various creator tools (sold separately) to fully customize one's armor, weaponry, flavor text, appearance, and other cosmetic settings.

A vast playing field awaited its players. There were nine worlds in total: Asgard, Alfheim, Vanaheim, Nidavellir, Midgard, Jotunheim, Niflheim, Helheim, and Muspelheim.

It boasted a massive world, numerous classes, and freely customizable appearances.

These features ignited the creative spirits of its Japanese players, and sparked what would later be known as a stylistic revolution. So popular was it that whenever the word "DMMO-RPG" was mentioned in Japan, listeners would immediately think of YGGDRASIL.

-Still, all these were things of the past now.

Somewhere in Yggdrasil-Alfheim

??? POV

After refreshing my small friend list for the 10th time I decided to close it with a sigh.

???: I heard even big guilds had most of their members drop out after the game's deadline was released, what chance did I have for some guildless players to come back in the game just to wait for it to end? Sometimes I think I'm the stupid one.

With a flick of my wrist, I closed my menu tab and raised my eyes to look at the dark and star-filled sky. Alfheim was beautiful as always. And I was enjoying it from the roots of the biggest tree in the Holy Forest of Jade. A place where the leaves became as reflective as mirrors in midday and shined with a disorienting sparkle at midnight.

As a guildless player, I didn't have a place built by my own hands to spend the final moments of this game, nor a personal base like others. Since the release of this game, I traveled on my own enjoying every single quest line and flipping every rock. While others were building castles and had guild raids, I enjoyed myself to the fullest. I, the player named Mobius nicknamed the snake who devoured all knowledge, and in real life the daughter of a corporate tyrant that is at the top of the food chain. The one who at the moment owns 9 of the World Items and was able to reach number 5 best player without even really trying and won 30 Wish upon a Star rings the day they were released in that horrible gacha that made me spend enough money that would have kept the entire countries electricity going for 3 months and used 64 of the 90 wishes they gave until now.
